Hey guys, I just purchased what I think might be a rare 240Z series 1 car. I have known this car since it was new and it is in un-restored condition however it was disassembled back probably 30 years ago and freshly painted. Never left the shop after that so I now have an original with absolutely no rust and all of the parts with 67K on it. The question I have is vin number 3010562 indicates that it might be the last of the original 531 series 1 cars of Oct. 1969. However the title says it is a 71. Am I just confused or is this for real? And what would be the value of this car, and where to go with it. Thanks so much, any help will be appreciated......

if the vin reads HLS3010562 then it was production number 10,562, not 562. The plate on the door should indicate month and year of manufacture.

A large number of 70's have been titled as 71's mine included. Many cars were left on the boat during a shipping embargo and not offloaded until after the changeover of model year and sold as 71 models. Also Nissan/Datsun did not allow dealers to sell for above sticker, but they did raise the sticker price a few hundred dollars for 71 models. Some unscrupulous dealers held some cars over and sold them as 71 models.

Yep. And 'series one' doesn't mean it was a 69/70, as S1 cars carried into 71.

If it's the car I'm thinking of (orange), it's a true 71. It's no longer 'original' as it's been painted, and I think it had triple carbs (not original).

The side markers are installed backwards, the C-pillar emblems were removed and filled, the interior is pretty roached, and it's missing some Series One parts.

I'd say (again, if it's the car I am thinking of) it's a very, very nice example of an early Z, but I wouldn't get too worked up over any additional rarity. It's rare as it is, and worthy of being brought back to original condition. Welcome aboard!!
