Howdy fellas! So I just bought a stripped down '68 311 Roadster. The guy was going to drop a 350 in it and lost interest with the amount of work and fabrication... good for me :) I picked it up for $250 with a lot of goodies in a tote. I live in Florida, but it will stay in Louisiana at my Pop's shop as I spend a couple months a year up here and need something to twiddle my thumbs on. The plan will be a tasteful resto mod with probably the SR20DET for the heartbeat. Haven't really m decided on much else since I'm busy removing all the rust to make sure it sits well until I come next trip. Here are some pics from the Craigslist ad and when I drove up to pick it up. Was in a garage for over a year and rust wasn't too bad to start :)

Engine bay (no heart)

NOS bottle (not included)

DIY Spoiler (quickly removed upon arrival at its new home)

Butcher bodywork (but he did stay at a Holiday Inn Express)

The goal over the next 2 weeks is to have the paint on the outside stripped and in metal etching primer. Then next trip (in a couple months) will be to pull the body off, undercoat it, sandblast/prime/paint the frame and cleanup the suspension/brakes etc.

Spectacular!

You're gonna have a blast wrenching on the Roadster.

On a side note, a stroker 1600 requires no modifications to drop in and makes more power than an NA SR. :)

NA? I do not know the meaning of the word ;) Forced Induction or nothing... I hear a "that's what she said" coming on?

Out of curiosity, how much HP we talking about?

Awesome David!

Can't wait to see the flow of updates! Looks like you got right down to business on this one so far. Keep it up! Once I get the Z back up I'll ride over to Eunice and check her out when you come back.

I'm subscribing.

Back in the late 80's I did a 2200 stroked roadster 1600 that was a real beast. I do not remember all the specs, but it was a 2L crank machined to fit, and offset ground, and larger pistons. Had to run aviation fuel or race gas, but the guy at the local airport had no issues with filling me up and a few fuel cans as well. Looks like a real fun project which ever way you decide to go.

Ok, I'm back in Florida. Left the roadster up in Louisiana for now.. still have lots to do on my Z here before I get too deep in the Roadster. Here are some pics of some work done while I was in Louisiana.

My version of a Rat Rod!
Image

Started stripping it down to get rid of the Lacquer Primer underneath...

Found some really bad bodywork. Some rust holes covered over with body filler
Image

Image

Image

Ground a line through to show how deep the body filler was in some spots on the passenger quarterpanel and right tail light area
Image

They didn't weld the panel back after an accident...
Image

And I believe that is solder between the lights!?!

Getting it ready to go under a cover for the next few month until I get back up to Louisiana. The next trip, I will strip the driver's side (most of that bodywork seems to have been done well, so should be easy) and the trunk.

I will also be pulling the body off of the frame, sand blasting the frame, prime/paint the frame, undercoat the bottom of the body, then set it back on with a couple bolts for easy removal again for motor/suspension/etc.

Holy thread Resurrection Batman!!! Well, almost 5 years later and I finally just brought her to Florida and am going to start working on her! The theme of this build is going to be a simple, restomod
