I really need some help. I just bought a 63 320 and need some parts for the E1 engine. I have searched the board and I am confused. I need a head gasket and the head studs and nuts to start with not sure which engines cross over for these parts.

any help would be great

cutter5941,

Welcome aboard. Hopefully we can set you straight for needed parts list, either through links to new/used parts or something from our private parts collection as there are quite a few active members with the stash of parts.

From the looks of it you look to be familiar with BMC products and if you take off the Nikki carb an put on a pair of 1 1/4 inch SUs and your E1 will look more like something from an '50s Austin (sorry not the Donald's Brute) or MGA. That's because the E1 is a copy of the BMC B motor so lots of parts work, though there are some that look close but do not work.

For gaskets pretty much all MGA stuff works, but be careful if there are two parts listed as one obviously does not work (like the timing cover gasket).

For a head gasket - MGA should work, though I have not physically compared an E1 to 3xmain-bearing MGA/B gasket at Victoria British with Bob. I'll be heading down later this week to get parts for my '64's engine rebuild and can check/compare/size up and take pics of head studs and what ever else as I have a crate J13 that I can take down a few parts for and compare for us all.

If you can post your specific wish list, I'll dig through the crate and take my J13/E1 parts along. In the mean time here is a link for comparable/alternate parts. I'm going off of this and getting the main bearings -

and of course VB/MM catalog for others -

thank you that is what I thought and have found out. I deal with Moss Motors will be there on Friday and will take head gasket with me and check. I am replacing all the hoses of course I like the hose set-up off the 1098 Midget/sprite over the MGA has anyone used the three piece set-up for the 320...I like the one piece off the 1098

I'd go with these cut to fit hoses from Gates. I was only disappointed in the Sprite/Midget hoses as they were not quite what I was looking for. The steel elbow joint works fine if you have the original type water pump.

Gates 20780 and 20535

And I think these were less expensive too.

Cutter,
Check with this guy in Ft Worth Texas:

Ivan at Import Auto Parts of Ft Worth
817-921-3944 or
817-926-9074

I just got an oil pump @ $87, full gasket set @ $50 (he has top end sets too), and two rear shocks @ $25 ea (didn't have the fronts). This is all old Japan manufacture stuff (old boxes). Also got a timing c'hain tensioner (Repco Aussie). Ivan is very helpful and will dig like a mole to see if he has what will work for you.

You can find a lot of stuff on Ebay. Just gotta search often. I've gathered mearly everything to do total overhaul over the past 10 months. Like 'Truckie' said, some of the britt car stuff will interchange and a lot of the J13 (520 pickup and 411 sedan & maybe more) stuff will work. A word of caution on the Britt stuff: be careful on thread and gear compatabilities. Unless I'm wrong, 320's are pretty much all SAE American thread, bolt, etc.

Here's what I used (hope this attaches; if not I'll try something else):

Trim ends a little and they're a perfect fit. You can see the dates and prices from my local NAPA.

Cutter,
That old round-top in the garage over the top of the yellowish TR3 is not an 40's-50's Anglia is it?
