18x8's in the front and 17x9's in the rear.... bad idea?

Ok, here's the deal and I've come up with what would see to me to be the perfect size of wheels but no one has them so I'm wondering what the problems could be...

I like the look of 18's the best (on my s14) but am aware that for performance, one would use the smallest diamater wheel that will clear the brakes. I also like the look/benefit of a staggered set-up width wise. And I think it'd look great because the difference is not enough to make it look lopsided and it may even look better with the smaller wheel. around the smaller brakes. So with this set-up I'd have the best of both worlds in theory and since the 17 inch wheel would be wider, I wouldn't run into any problems with my front wheels being heavier (I think). Of course the overall diameter of the wheel would be kep the same with a good tire choice but is there something I'm missing here? I know that the SCC street contest winning viper had smaller diameter wheels in the back and all of those ricers have wheels 3 inches smaller in the front on thier cars but again, I'm no wheel expert.

Any help would be appreciated.

why not run a nice proven track setup of 17x8 and a 17x9?

or even a 17x8 and 18x9.5? <-thats what taniguchi runs on his S15....

I think you'd be kidding yourself if you thought you'd be getting any more performance outa a backwards stagger on a 240sx chasis man...-chet

Not more performance, it'd be mostly for looks. I just don't want it to be at the cost of performance you know?

it'd look really dumb. anyone who knows anything about cars(IE, the people you'd want to be looking cool for) would ask you why you did that to your car. You'd be giving up a lot in cornering ability, and many other factors. AT least reverse the setup, 17" front and 18" rear, like the drifters use....-chet

** sigh **

It'd be for me not drifters or wannabe drifters...I don't think anyone even drifts within 50 miles of me.

anyhow I think I'll retire that idea. Hey, I guess peer pressure is how I make some of my desicions. :pface .

Wow... that is just plain wrong :shocked2 Where do you find this stuff? As far as a 17-18 fitment, there would be no mechanical advantage. Do what you want with the car as long as it's safe. It's just not my cup of tea.
