I already know you h8ers and purists will have nothing good to say about this project so post elsewhere.

None of these: maybe a little of

For the rest of you open minded users, Here is my cheap conversion I've been working on. Bought the cheapest body kit on ebay and started molding in the lights with clay and fiberglass. The body kit came with front and rear fenders, skirts, and both bumpers. For about $500 it was a steal, the quality of the parts aren't so great but I can do the repairs myself easy enough. Only the front is on right now, took about a week to mold the lights in and fit things on. Will get the wheelspacers soon as well as paint the car in a glossy black.

No this won't be rotary powered... Painted the intercooler pipes and valve cover grey on my CA18DET, makes about 80hp at the wheels, as most kited out cars do.

well...it's different lol. I think you're going to have to go widebody in the rear to make it look right, but other than that i'm sure it's gonna look pretty clean when you are done. Is it a typo or did you mean to say 80 hp? Oh and really clean engine bay. I think I like that the most lol.

Ditch the headlights and it will look ok, I think some Z32 lights would look nice, but will require some work to get proper fittment. I totally agree with needing some wider rear fenders.

80hp is the joke, I do have the widebody for the rear (not on in the pic), and it looks pretty mean in person with everything test fit on.

Also I have the fixed headlights cause my popups motors are burnt, else I'd have them on.

I want to see another angle to better judge her curves.. if your headlights don't go up and down it is usually the switch on your steering column. I still think the fd driving lights would look sweet with the Z32 lights.

good idea with the project, definitely different. I just say lose the anti-flip headlights, but I always say that, I've never liked them.

Good luck dude

EDIT:I gotta type faster, everyone already said this

I would have had to buy new turn lights for this cheapo ebay kit anyway, and I figured I'd try something new. I've seen it on cars in Japan so I figured I'd give it a try here in the states.

And the rear wide body panels are not on in this pic.

I've always liked that fd style bumper even though everyone always hates on it, but deffinately ditch those lights and go back to pop ups, and why did you say 180sx to fd more like ca18 240sx, 180sx's are right side drive.

180sx makes me think hatch only, so not to confuse this with a coupe project while keeping the forum title short. "Hatch to FD" didn't sound cool enough

Here is some pics with the factory made bodykit that has the conversion for the turn lights, cost about $520 USD for the bumper alone and are only available in japan, so shipping charges will get you. My ebay method makes it cost nothing near that, just alot of time.

Coming from someone who has to deal with people's negativity (R32 front on my s13 coupe) I like it man. I agree with some others...maybe different headlights, I've always liked the way stock FD headlights look with those lights it just seems like those eastbear headlights you can get for an S13, and why not stick with the stock headlights? I think it'd stand out more like that...in a good way.

Either way, keep it up

IMO...AWESOME!!! anybody that hates on someone for ingenuity and originality is generally just jealous they didnt think of it first.

Now i personally like your headlights, its a nice little change from the bland popups. but i see where these guys are coming from because the fd popups are way cool looking.

JK I really like it. I have always thought the rx7 front was cool on a 240 and very different. If the lights get painted they wont look bad at all. I think why most people don't like the lights is because they never see them painted. There always on some bright colored car. Looks good though. It will be SICK with a widebody rear. What color are you planning on painting it. +1000 for being different. Also sick motor. Keep us posted.

i like the rx7 bumper lights, but id def change the non-pop up headlights to some oem flip-ups.

other than that, looks pretty good so far!

as long as you do everything right, it could be different but look good as well. i wouldn't get spacers though. using spacers to accommodate wide body is stupid. get new wheels. also, you should paint those headlights or just buy some new stock ones (i think it would look better with stock)

good luck though

I've had these fixed lights on with my pignose for a few months now, they look retarded, but seem to work better with the bodykit. The profile of the humps are way too high and look weak from the sides. I wish they sat down lower and maybe further apart, I was thinking of remaking them with my new love of fiberglass work or just sticking in the halo lights into the old popups for some kind of fixed light mod since I don't wanna drop money on working motors atm.

I could try grafting these nsx lights in, they prob cost $800+ tho, at that price I would have went with the s15 lights instead of this cheap conversion method I devised...

You could try to fit those lights in a custom housing into the stock popups and just scrap the motors and leave them in a fixed position. That way you'd have the lazy eye look with full lighting benefits

true, or i could use a rope and pulley system that raises the popups. Thats how the Egyptians did it.

A pulley would definitely accent those lights
