I know I'm probably gonna get quite some flack for asking this, but my question basically is how would you tune down/turn off the turbo (basically wanting to have 0psi of boost) for driving in slick conditions such as rain, or i know everyone is going to hate this but winters (i know that the stock SR20DE engine with no stock turbo has only 137hp which isn't an excessive amount and would be fairly easy to drive in snow.

So basically my question is, is there a way to turn the turbo off or down to 0 boost, and how much of a horsepower difference would it make, (how similar to the stock DE would it be?)

I'm asking as I'm looking to FINALLY get a 180, and would just like to know how easy it is to change the tuning of the turbo for the worse of the conditions in alberta.

is it possibly to turn off your engine at red lights without turning off your engine?

Well i should have said first off I can't afford to get/keep a second car, for reasons of I can't afford the extra insurance, nor do I have a place to store it.

However what I was thinking is since you can use a boost controller to tune up a turbo to get more psi of boost, is it not possible to do it the other way and tune it to have less boost?

And I was thinking a SR20DET with 205 horsepower is probably pretty ballzy when its on snow, which is why I'd like to be able to tune down the turbo in addition to lightening up on the gas if i got it.

I've driven my car on black ice before and I have a stiff suspension too. It's not fun and all you can really do is go easy on the gas. You could just try disconnecting the wastegate actuator arm, but I think going easy on the throttle makes more sense.

I cant believe that this is a serious question but if it is my best advice is to be easy on the gas as there is no way to do what you are asking.....

No.

Thats 205hp at like 6k rmps full throttle. You can "tune it to have less boost" by taking it easy on the gas and keeping it out of boost.

Man you'll be fine in the snow man, it's no big deal. I owned a 180 for 2years while I was stationed in Misawa, Japan. It snowed like hell and I actually loved it. I got around town just fine, and was able to cut loose in it too.

just pull the turbo off and drive it like that...youll notice immediately that it will have much less power.....y0

This is probably your first turbo car because you don't seem to understand how the turbocharger works. It doesn't build boost unless you step harder on the accelerator and after a certain rpm. If you drive normally, take a look at the boost gauge. You will not go past 0 bar and the needle will mostly be in vacuum. Boost builds up. When you touch the accelerator pedal, it won't be at 7 psi instantaneously.

the stock sr20de does have 137 hp.

but the sr20det with NO TURBO would have like 50 hp.

the sr20det is designed to be run with a turbo. it has much much much much lower inherent compression ratio than the sr20de.

honestly if you plan on driving your 240 in the snow, get some nokian hakapalitas (sp).....they are amateur rally winter tires...

take it slow...and make sure to have some good rubber on your tires and you will be fine...also make sure that your car isn't slammed..obviously..

blizzaks man. they make your life SO much better in the winter.

try throwing a few sandbags or something in the back of the car. that helps a lot too

I really think that you should invest into a beater. First 240s are not good winted cars period, even with little power that a** will be topside very easily, an amature (no offence) driver like you will get in trouble very quickly. Second and more important to me is the fact that 240's have the worst rust protection, for me it's parked all winter no matter what
