After wating about 6 months for my local shop to finally get my windows the shop owner calls me while i am at work in LA (about 2 hrs from home) and tells me that he would be willing to personally take my 180 quarter windows to the shop where i am having my car painted, as this is one of the last things that it needs before its finished. After recieving the glass my painter calls me and says this is perfect timing as he can have the window guy install the windshield and quarter glass on the same day. im thinkin' oh great! When i get off work i head over to the shop to check out the new additions only to find out that the quarter glass never came with the moulding/trim piece around it and the window guy already put them in, so i go over to nissan to see to see if they can order me the trim pieces but they only tell me that they come attached to the window from the factory. Upon closer inspection of my old 240 windows i find that they are pre glued to the glass. My thinking now is that i will use a heat gun, screw driver and a little finess to get the trim pieces off the 240 windows but i thought i would first look for some insight, advice or similar experience stories, so if anyone has ANYTHING i would greatly appericate it. Thanks.

Don't know exactly what trim you're referring too, but should just be bolts and that sticky black sealant.

yea i know the problem you are talking about...i dont know if you are able to put them back on cleanly...might be only way to get new ones WITH the trim still on.

I am talking about the moulding that goes around the entire rear quarter window. I am also starting to think that if i want the moulding i will have to buy another set of 180 windows with the moulding already attached. Today i tried to get the mouldings off of the 240 windows and it wasnt happening at all. They are on there for good unless i totally destroy them in the process of taking them off. the other think that i was thinking is that maybe the 180 windows have a different moulding. I dont know why someone would go through all of that trouble to remove it, if it is the same as the 240 moulding. Plus they may have made the 240 windows different to meet DOT specs whereas the 180 mouldings didnt have to fit such a stringent code. If anyone can speak towards this matter your input would be greatly advantageous to me. Thanks.

I just asked if they can get the quarter window moulding for a 1989 240sx (because i know that the window is the exact same size) and they tell me that it comes attached to the window. I DIDNT ask them if they can get the quarter window moulding for a 180sx because, from past experience, I know that thay would look at me like i was crazy and ask me what a 180sx was. In the Antelope Valley we only have dealerships that are run by hicks who have no idea what JDM tite is. If i could talk to a dealership who could possibly see if another dealer in Japan would be able to see if the 180 moulding was seperate I could either order it or be stuck with my moulding-less 180 windows because, like the 240 windows, they come attached as well.

i dont know if you have already fixed this problem, but i'll tell you what my buddy and i did when it came to installing the 180sx glasses. the mouldings can be aquired seperatly or as a bundle package, that is both glass and moulding togheter, however, they are way too expensive seperatly and are rarely instock because of the cars age, this is why the dealership will not sell the 240sx glass without the moulding already on it, is stupid and it took me a while to understand and even after calling on friends who work at Nissan service depts. i still got nowhere! so i gave up on any support from the dealership on this install, and i called a buddy of mine who works with a company that replaces windshields and he swapped the glasses using the 240sx mouldings on the 180sx glasses in a couple of hours, now this is what he does for a living so for him it was easy as hell i dont recomend that you do this on your own, best source for these mouldings at least where i live is the junkyard. also very important if you choose to call someone in to repair this for you ask them if your insurance will cover the cost, because i have State Farm and full coverage on my car and I was able to bill the insurance company without any problems, hope this helps

When the moulding is 'glued', or 'stuck' to the glass, it's usually called "Encapsulated" glass. I don't think there is a way to get it separately. I could be wrong. But my family owned a glass shop for some years, and in my time, I've only seen the 'clip' in type of moulding. There's really no way to get it in, and behind the glass after it's already in.Just put your old ones back in, and buy a sticker.
