Hey fellas....

So I was testing my car on the open road... I had always pondered... My dash only goes to 180km/h (112mp/h) surely thats a mistake

Threw it into 1st gear.... and took off manually releasing the gears as I approach the redline... approaching the end of 3rd gear and the car chugs....

Its electronically limited to about the 180km/h mark...

I was disappointed to say the least, as I still had 4th gear to go!

Can anyone tell me anything about this limiter, and how or if it can be removed?

You can get the speed limiter removed by getting the ECU reprogrammed. Talk to Wes (Elwesso) about it. There are several threads about the "NICO" ECU. It also ups the redline to 7400 amongst other things.

112 mph seems pretty slow. Before I got my ECU done I had mine up to 120 mph, never hit the limiter so I don't really know what it was set at.

IIRC, the limiter kicks in at 155 mph on USDM models. Mine has been to 140 mph so far (oddly enough, by the wife, not by me )

Yea USDM is limited at 155. I've hit the limiter once. County built 4 miles of 4-lane divided highway but ran out of money to make the next section to make it actually go somewhere. My own personal drag strip!

My brother his 189mp/h in his 300ZX TT (578whp dyno'd) before he let up ;o

I hit 155 at the top of 3rd gear in Lola. It took a Mustang Cobra 5 miles to catch me, and then he couldn't stay in front of me for long. He was maxxed out on the car, and I had about 25 MPH left to go (according to jamesmost's GPS transmitter).

When the speedo read 158, I was only going 155 according to the chassis dyno. Also, when the tach read 7,400 RPM, I was only at 7,200 RPM The rev limiter didn't kick in until the ttach read 7,700 RPM. I was sweating bullets at that point. It is a really soft limiter, nothing like the Corvette's .

Tires grow above 130 mph thus fewer rpm needed to increment the same speed increment. Like a reduced gear ratio from the diff.

The speedometer must contend with the calibration of the voltmeter needle as it swings over vertical and gravity pulls the needle down

Mine looks like the first one, except the speedo reads up to 280, and has an IMPUL logo above the center of the needle.

And a HKS FCD should fix your problem of the speed limiter. Ask some local performance car shops and auto electricians if they can help you out.

IMPUL G50http://www.impul.co.jp/products/parts/meter.htm

Here's what I would like:

Similar, but the font on the one you posted is different. The font for the numbers on mine are EXACTLY the same as the first generation gauge cluster, reading up to 280, and the impul logo is in the right spot......

I don't have a picture of it, but I do have a video....

There it is.
