ive been lookin around for rims to put on my a/c and am getting mixed suggestions from different ppl. at first i wanted 20's, but living here in Cali and in my area with all the pot holes, having rubber bands or tires isnt the best idea. i was wondering if anybody with 20's could tell me how they run.

so b/c of this i was thinking of 18's or 19's and i was wondering if i could getthe dimensions/offsets for both and which ones are more practical.

I know what you mean, a friend of mine has 20"s on his G35 and bent the rim ever so slightly on a pot hole. Remember offset on the wheel is pretty universal when it comes to diameter, it's about the tire thickness and the offset. The width of the wheel just fine tunes the side wall of the tire a bit. I'll have pictures of my 19's by this weekend

Offset is universal when it comes to diameter? that doesnt make sense at all.

Example, it doesn't matter if you have a 17, 18, 19, or 20…. a +20 offset with a 245 tire will rub ect. An offset has no effect on the rim size when going to a larger wheel (keeping the tire size the same). You need to only compensate for tire profile. Sorry if my words were vague in my original post…. Looks like a +35 offset and larger will work with any tire 245 or smaller

I ran into a curb last night in an unlit parking lot up here in Nevada. Dented my rim , gata get Kyle to ship me a new one up here to Fallon. Word of advice, if your going to drive around an unlit parking lot, and you have 5% tint, roll down your windows so you can see around you

I understand your concern, if you go with 19's, chances are your tire will be just as thick/thin as they would on 20" tires. There's a number of folks on the forum that have gone with 245/35/19 tires, mainly because they tend to be cheaper and easier to find than 245/40/19 tires.

So if you go with 19's, and get 245/35/19 tires to save money, then your sidewalls will be the EXACT same size as they would on 245/35/20 wheels!

If you go with 245/40/19 tires, then your sidewalls will be 3.86" vs 3.38".. that's an extra 1/2 inch difference in side wall thickness, which may, or may not alter the outcome of a pothole encounter!

So all in all, you're gonna continue to get mixed reviews because everyone likes different things... I absolutely love my 20" wheels, but I think the 19" folks will say the same thiong about theirs... even the itsy bitsy 18" guys may like theirs also, but IMO, 18" looks too much like stock and doesn't fill out the wheel well enough, even with a drop!

to me 18's with a drop gives the best balanced look that doesnt scream "hey look at me i have rims". desertdragon is a great example, im in love with that car

this is why they make different size rims, because everybody likes what they like... nobody's wrong here!

so EicichiAce, just look at diffeent folks rides, and make your decision... however, I would highly advise getting +35 ~ +38 offset wheels... unless you like the sunken in look of the factory wheels!

Weren't you the one who said "you can always add spacers with higher offset wheels but with lower ones you're out of luck"

yes, but this comment was meant for folks that want their wheels flush with the wheel well.

the problem with the spacers is, if you want a flush look, and you get +45 offset wheels, you may need 10+mm spacers to get the look you want. But if you start with +35, and that's not what you want, you may only need 5mm spacere to get the desired look.

also, now that we know that even +25 wheels will fit without rubbing (well, that's what foxmarketing says, but I don't know if that's the case with real, progressive lowring springs like the Eibach)... well, now that we know that +35 offset , 8.5" wheels with prokit will fit without rubbing, there's more wiggle room for folks to add spacers!

So basically my statement still applies, it just appplies with a new starting point for the offset now that we have real world applications that we know will work. In principle, it would still be unwise, in my opionion, to go get some +20 offset wheels and then say... damn, I didn't want them to stick out that far!

I'm looking at some 18" rims with an offset of 42mm. Will that stick out?

Absolutely not, unless they are like 10" wide! I saw a g35 with 19 x 10.5 wheels in the rear running 275 tires... looked real nice!

They are 18X7.5 and i plan on getting some 225/45/z18 tires. Well that is the recommended tire size from tirerack.com

Alright so im guessing that 245/40/19 would look pretty damn nice but im kinda stuck on the width and offset for my rim. if im trying to get an aggressive look for my car(having the wheels pretty flush with my wheel weld) what offset and width should i be looking towards? lol sry for such noob questions

I have 245/40/19s at +38 offset and no rubs here. It seems that you can go +35 and still be safe. Then again, there's the FM coupe with +22?

FM coupes rear offset is +19, but he had to roll his fenders.

Just a little note, most wheels with a low offset and wider rims have a concave look or a deep dish looking.

Also the more you lower your car, your wheels tend to tuck in the wheel well.

Yes, +35, 8.5" with 245 tires is a nice flush look, and safe with Eibach prokits to drop... I've bottomed out a few times in the same area going to work and NEVER rubbed!

And again, Foxmarketing's carmay not be particularly safe to drive. He's using 2002 Altima Tein Performance springs... and while he may have figured out a way to get them to fit, the spring rate is NOT correct for this vehicle! Companies do R&D for months in order to come out with correct springs that both fit and are safe for driving. That's why you can't just put any old set of springs on a vehicle, that's why you can't put the 2.5 Prokits on a 3.5 vehicle, or why you can't put 3.5 Sedan spings on a 2.5 vehicle... its just not safe!

If you talk to any reputable suspension company, they will tell you that putting incorrect springs on a vehicle is not a good idea. Its ok for a showcar that isn't a daily driver, but for the average consumer, just not a good idea.
