I'll admit 90% of my driving is here in the city. But, I'm not a lead-foot driver.Last night, I checked my mileage and got 18 mpg. I've never gotten better than 20 mpg.I used to drive Saab turbos, prior to this car, with powerful engines and a lot of added weight and always got in the mid-20s.

I mentioned this to the Nissan service technician I visited today. (I needed an oil change, have the recall addressed, and make them deal with the tire pressure light.)

He said, because I have only 2,400 miles on the car, it's not fully broken-in and that my 18 mpg reading was actually quite good. I looked at him as if he had three heads. "18 mpg for a Versa?!?" I asked. He nodded.

Don't get me started with all the mysterious rattles in the cabin that have appeared recently. Or the 6-speed manual transmission that lets the engine roar at 3,000+ RPM when cruising at highway speeds.

Your dealer is crazy!! Mine got 27 on the first tank, and now around 29 and I have 2700 miles. I drive semi agressive and 80% city. You should have them run I diagnostic or something, maybe someone else has some better stats, but the lowest I have heard is 22mpg, and that was a self proclaimed aggressive drive.

both of my Camels had their share of 17s and 19s... of course, I've also gotten 44 on a road trip and a best in this Camel of 36... keep the faith! My first Camel never got much better than 23.7 until after it had ~6,000 miles on it! (then it got consistent 33)

Even with the additional Calfornia smog stuff, running the a/c 100% and 100% city driving I got 25.0 out of my second tank. You can see where I am right now; I updated my profile mileage and mpg today.

I really think that Nissan dealers are crooked, ignorant, (your criticism here) in exactly the same % as many other brands of dealers. When you find a good one they are a gem to hang on to and treasure, but most are mediocre at best. The same can be said of GM, Toyota, Honda, etc. Some are worse across the board, but no brand has 100% good dealers.

Most just do not want to deal with diagnosing a problem that isn't clearly staring them in the face. So many different things could be causing the lousy gas mileage, almost every one of them covered by warranty, and they want to get paid full boat by you, the consumer.

If you can't find another dealer to fix it, start beating on the door of your dealer daily until they agree to get your car in the same gas mileage range as the vast majority of other Versas on the road.

I don't think the dealer can have much of a clue. That kind of mileage is preposterously low. I am very conscientious when it comes to watching my RPMS, avoiding coming to a complete stop when possible and coasting as often as possible. Still, though, the worst mileage I have gotten would probably be about 26 mpg and that was with me using the A/C most of that tank and driving a bit more aggresively than I would usually. I drive with my front windows down a good portion of the time and I found that I get entirely better mileage with the windows down as opposed to using the A/C. Typically, I think I'm getting around 35 mpg. I may have lost a little bit in the fuel economy department since I went to the bigger wheels and the low profile tires.

I'm using ordinary regular unleaded-- normal 87 octane-- no additives. I excused the low mileage the first 1,500 miles, because Nissan says you have to break in the engine. Now that I have more than 2,400 miles, I should see 20+.

I think the dealer that serviced my car could care less, because I didn't purchase the Versa there. Nonetheless, the manager will be hearing about it. I'm sending in the comment card, with quite a comment.

Good luck. No really. I know first had that the dealership could care less about your brand new car. Don't forget to give Nissan North America a call (1-800-NISSAN1) and file a complaint against that dealer. I hope everything gets sorted out.

Speaking of... any more word on your car? (I know, probably best to ask this in your suspension topic... but I'm lazy)

I noticed my last tank suuuuuuuuucked. I got like 170 miles on 3/4's ish whereas i took a roadtrip from Long Island up to Cooperstown 3 weeks ago and got 120 to the 1/4 tank....granted here I'm in super stop and go for everywhere I go...but that's deplorable...

My wife drives about 50 miles a day round trip and it's a mixed 50/50 highway city, and we average right around 34-35, it's a California car with about 3600 miles on it
