NEED vs. WANT.

You don't NEED anything bigger than, say, 16x7 on a J. But if you spend any time watching MTV at all, you're gonna be pretty convinced you NEED 18's.

That said, some of our J drivers have big rims - Talk to diamondj30 - He can steer you right.

what is your objective with the car.lowering aftermarket sway bars?i would only go 7.5.at most .i like clearance.i just try to keep the outside diameter of the tire close to oem as posible.that way you get options, like right on i can lower it.you want side wall to obsorb some of the pot holes and irregular differences in road.i use 16/55/225.i think a 17 is perfect. mahemj30,uses bigger and is lowered too.lets see if we can get his opinion.

17 inch wheel diameter is arguably the best for varying conditions. you have less tread roll with 18 inch obviously, yet a harsher ride as diamond said. it all depends what you want. if you want pure (poor) looks, just slap on some dubs and be done with it.

i will eventually be going with some forged 18x8 that weigh a mere 17.5 lbs ( much less than most aftermarket 17x7s, and just a half pound more than stock!)

with a proper offset, widths up to 8.5 inches should be fine on the J30.

Dad had those on his 84 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham... Baby blue metallic with a matching padded vinyl top, white leather interior... That thing is more in style NOW than it was brand new....
