With those specs you shouldn't have to roll the fenders.. I run Work Meister s2r's 18x9 on the front and 18x10 on the rear.. fenders are rolled slightly, but probably didn't need it.. Make sure to get tires that stretch over the rim.. I do 255/35 on the back and 235/35 on the front..

Black hawk, I would do a search for the 9/10 combo and see what everyone says, or if you are good with math find out exactly how much clearance you will have. Seems like quite a few people are running wider rims and not having and issues. I personally think 8/9 is wide enough.

97s14guy, what are the offsets on your wheels? I want some SSR professors in either 18x8/9 and 18x9/10, and was curious as to how well yours fit with the coilovers and slight fender roll. I don't have coilovers yet but will.

I run 17x8 and 17x9 and had the 275s on the back when I first got them. I didn't have any problems, but my car wasn't lowered at the time.

I have a S14 lowered on Tein S-techs/Tokico Blues and I run a 17x8 +25 in the front with a 245/40/17 tires and in back 17x9 +35 275/40/17 tires. Fitment it great. My rear fenders need a slight roll because of rubbing on hard cornering or hard launches. Other than that fitment is perfect, the bigger tires in the rear make it stick out just a tiny, tiny bit; but the fender roll will bring them back in.

You don't need a 10 inch rim in the back unless you want stupid big rubber like a 295 or 305, which will require a higher offset so it won't stick out. If you stretch a 255 over a 10in rim you're sacraficing any performance gain the 10 inches provides you.

I'm pretty sure the 275 (10.82") on a 9" wheel is on the upper limits of tire width. Looks like you have a pretty good bulge going there. I'm looking at getting 10"s on the back and am going with 255-265 for tire width tops. Might want to change up the width on your next set of tires to see if that won't cure your fender rubbing problem first.

Darius is very correct. A 275 is as big a tire that safely should be run on a 9in wheel. Any wider than that increase the risk of blowing the bead off under hard cornering. (Very hard cornering)

A 255 would fit perfectly on my rear wheels without a roll as I have seen several cars do it. But the added sidewall and contact patch was worth paying the 30 bucks it'll cost to roll my fenders.

BlackHawk, do you want maximum traction (straight line & cornering), easy drifting, or just good looks?

If you want traction, don't stretch something over a wide wheel and expect more traction. Sidewall plays a HUGE part in straight line traction, and stretching a tire can actually lower contact patch on cornering.

If you wanna drift, stretch a small tire over a smaller wheel. If you want looks you don't need a wide wheel unless you got cash to blow; in which case, send some my way.

The goals I have for my car will (hopefully) need as much traction as possible. So my plans warrant as wide a tire as I can safely fit.

Its all in what you plan to do with the car.

Thats the basic idea. Not hard. Alot of places rent them out. If you do it yourself use a heatgun/hairdryer to keep your paint from cracking.

And Darius, strangely enough, my build is almost exactly like yours: Red S14, with an RB25DET on its way (shipping number puts its ETA at next thursday, lol). Our parts lists are just about the same too. Good luck with yours.

I have 17x8 in the front with a +35mm offset and they're perfect on an s14. For tires, a 235/45 will be run on them. I had 245/45's, but the wall was just too tall.

I'm fixing to have 17x10 in the rear with a +35mm offset as well, which is supposedly going to sit them flush. Most likely with a 275/40, or 35. I'm not sure, I dont want a large wall at all, but dont want a rubber band either.

98birdls1 - great minds think alike eh? jk. If you're in the market for a Greddy exhaust cam gear, I'd order it from Nengun NOW since it took about two months for mine to arrive $135 later. I still haven't had the time to wire it up and do some other odds and ends, but I'm hoping to be in and running by April.

UncleBen - a +35mm offset on a 10" wheel will put the tire ~29mm closer to the shock housing so if you're planning on going with coilovers in the future, you might need some significant spacers. Might want to re-evaluate the offset and shoot for a lower one. Use the offset calculator if you haven't already.

Why were the 245's too tall? The second 45 number denotes sidewall height. My advice is to get the bigger sidewall tire. A 275 on a 10in wheel won't have any bulge to it and will look good. There is very little noticeable difference in a 35 sidewall and 40 sidewall.

Darius- My motor is going in basically stock minus MHG and ARP studs, clutch and new OEM crap like WP, timing belt & assembly, gaskets that sort of stuff . Mainly things that is easier to do while the motor is out of the car. It'll make it easier for me to troubleshoot things if the motor is stock. Too bad you live so far away. I'd like to see your setup.

id also say 17x8 +25, 17x9 +35, id run a 235/45/17 and a 255/40/17

the difference between a 275/35 and a 275/40, each sidewall with the 40 is 14mm taller...

that said, this is a 275/40/17 on the front, on a 17x10
