Here's yet another wheel offset and tire question.

I have a S14 and I mounted 17x9 +14 wheels with 235/45/17 tires in back. My S14 is fairly stock, H&R Sport springs on Koni Yellow shocks. There's a bit of camber in back from lowering and I'm not quite sure how much it's off by. When I have the wheels on, it's sticking out a tad bit, but there's still a 1 inch gap between tire and the rear quarter panel. However, as I was pulling out of my driveway, there was some serious rubbing going on. Then I took the car for a spin around the block and I noticed some rubbing when I drove over any small dips or imperfections on the road.

I'll be going to the tire shop next week but I wanted to get some opinions before I go. The thing is, I want to avoid rolling the fenders or pulling the body. I don't think it's neccessary so I won't do it unless I have no choice. Would I be clear if I had 225/40/17 sized tires mounted on? Or would it be a better if I had 215/40/17 instead? I don't want to stretch the tires too much so 215 seems a bit crazy in my opinion. My S14 is a daily driver and I do more grip driving than I do drifting.

The problem is the wheel itself... it sticking too far out so anytime you get bump in the suspension (aka travel) you'll end up with the fender rubbing the tire.

Smaller tires won't solve the problem.

Sounds like your kinda stuck with what you got, your options are to roll the fender (that may or may not fix it), get wide body fenders, or get new wheels.

Not to lecture you but you really should have searched this forum to see if that would have fit. If you would have posted this earlier I more than likely would have told you they would rub.

Rubbing problem solved! If anyone cares.

I went down to the tire shop and talked to the owner. He recommended that I have the fenders rolled. After rolling the fenders, I had 225/40/17 sized tires mounted. I test drove my car and noticed the rubbing was gone. I was so happy! These rims are super sexy and I love 'em.

I'm not exactly what brand my rims are. I call 'em the JDM bling rims because that's all they say. "Made in Japan" 17x8 14 and 17x9 14. They sorta look like AMG Monoblocks except they're a two-piece design with a crazy low offset and have a really phat lip!

Here are the specs:

17x8 +14 with 215/45/17 sized tires. These wheels have a 2.75 inch lip!17x9 +14 with 225/40/17 sized tires. These wheels have a 4 inch lip!

Hey man, I see that you have the H&R and Koni adjs. setup on. How do those work? I know this post is about your wheels but I was interested on that setup and I would like to know if I should get that setup, or a coil-over setup. Of course H&R's and Koni would be cheaper, but I wonder if coils will actually do much better for the money cuz I would think that H&R's with Konis would feel great. Please, tell me what you think. PEACE

Hey Grinil..

H&R Sport springs on Koni Yellow shocks is pretty much just like [insert brand of springs here] on KYB AGX. The only difference is that the Koni Yellows are adjusted differently than the AGX's. Also, I believe the Koni Yellows can handle a higher spring rate. I decided to go with H&R Sport springs because I got a lower drop versus Eibach Sportlines or the Tein S-tech.

All in all, it's a decent setup for grip driving and occasional drifting. The only downside is the lack of camber adjustment and lowering capabilities. I get about a 1.75 drop in front and 1.5 in back. It gives my S14 a more aggressive stance, but I'm looking for something a bit more extreme. If you're interested, I could sell you my entire setup. My suspension is about 6 months old so they're still pretty new. Let me know!

Hey Norm,

Yea, those wheels were Bensons, they're mine now! Heh.. good stuff.. I love the crazy low offset and phat lip! Anyhow, I'll see you around..

Serious kenny? You will sell them to me? Man, I might be interested in that then. But the thing is that I was thinking of going straight to a coilover setup (Nismo S-tech or JIC FLT-A1) and ending there. Because if I buy your suspension, I know that I am gonna want Coilovers eventually. But now that I think about it, I might be more interested than I thought. Just tell me what you will be willing to sell them for, and I will see. Thanks man.

FLT-A1s aren't worth it... if your going to get JIC coilovers get the FLT-A2s.

Can you do me a favor and get a pic of the wheels down the line of the car?

Basically I wanna see how far in/out they stick out.

How much did you have to roll before they fit?

Hey Nismo freak, seems like you know a lot about Coilovers and sus. What do you suggest is best towards price and performance? Nismo S-techs, R-techs, FLT-A2's, HE's, flex's, or the HKS ones? I really need to do a lot of research on Sus. and I need opinions. THANKS
