I've seen all three sizes recommended, from specs it looks like the 235 is more suited width wise since an 8" wide wheel is the max for most 225s it seems. I think 235/45 is a bit taller than stock, and 235/40 is hard to find. Is 225/45 really the best choice?

Yes. a 225-45-17 works well on both a 7.5 and 8" wheel. the 235-45-17 will work splendidly also on the 8" wheel, but may be a bit tall for your liking (not to mention gearing, etc)..and both the 235 and 225 are available in plenty of super sticky compounds

Okay, since I'm stock KA right now and taller gearing wouldn't help in the slightest, I'll go with teh 225/45..now just to work a little more and decide on some hweels
