Currently I have 225/45/17 tires, but need to buy a new set ASAP, so what could be the widest (and safest) tire to fit to these rim size?

i would say you're on it already. personally i'd rather go with a skinnier tire and shorter sidewall. width of tire doesn't affect grip like most people think. it has a very small effect. don't believe me? check out the '91 NSX. 0.91g on the skidpad. tire sizes? 205/50/15 front and 225/50/16 rear.

get a really good tire in a 205/40/17, like Falken Azenis if you're on the cheap, and call it a day. and don't try to run 205 front and 255 rear or something. 205/40/17 Azenis are ~$95 and 225's are only like $115ish online. that's w/o shipping. or 215/235, the 235's are significantly more $$$, but should be about 0 stretch on 7" front, 8" rear. if you have the same 17x7's front and rear i'd at least go 205/215, better in my book would be 195/215.

if you want to cheap out on tires, just remember all the power you make, your great brakes and expensive coilovers are wasted if your crappy tires only let you pull 0.82g's and stop like a pickup truck. great tires + stock suspension are WAY faster than stock tires + great suspension.

Thanx for the info man!I was asking for a widest because of the looks, not the grip.
