Good morning ladies and gents,

I'm just curious if this wheels size will fit my girls base model 95 s14. It's a 17x7 with a offset of 40 and is a universal 4 lug so I'm assuming 4/100 and 4/114 lug pattern. Any help would be appreciated. She wont be racing or anything with those wheels. Just commuting. An answer soon would be appreciated. There is a set of wheels im interested in getting her but it relys on this being answered. Love you guys.

Justin

Justin -

They's sit somewhat "sunken", but will fit fine.

If she's not worried about looking "JDM tyte", they'll be fine, and a nice moderate upgrade for a "girl car".

Ill be honest and say it will look pretty bad in my opinion, 7" with 40 offset is sunken like the titanic especially the rears. Although you could pick up some spacers and make it work. But it is a girls car, she might think its "cute"

Well it beats her steelies and hub caps right now. What's the stock offset for those steelies anyways?

It's just that I found a set of wheels for $200 bucks in mint condition and they look just like Volk GT7 wheels. Sounded like a great deal.

Stock offset is around 45 I think.

Those will look fine.

Worst-case scenario, later on you can buy some bolt-on spacers.

That will be pretty sunken in .. the stock wheels are 16x7 or 15x6.5 (base) and ET is 42..

if you want a decent look, get something in low 20's @ 9" wide.. that will be perfect for the rears.. actually you can get pretty cheap 16" wheels that are 8" wide and have pretty low offsets.. like 15 or 10.. just search on ebay, and you'll find some for sure..

Flushness/sunkenness is all relative - there is no reason to have to get her a 9" wide rim w/ 20 offsets, then end up having to roll/flare the fenders and chipping the paint and dinging up the car (happened to my s13 even though it was done "professionally" ).

Anyway, 17x7 +40 will be fine depending on spoke design and what she likes.

Do you want her to go "oooo, sexy", or do you want a bunch of 15 year old boys going "oooo, jdm tyte, that is the SEX y0!"

You know your gf better than any of us do (hopefully ), so you would know what she will like.

And to help you see, this is a 17x7 ET 42 w/ honda sized offsets & tires on my s13 a while back:

Yah I think these will work just fine. It's just in the FD world, the wrong offset and size is a no no and there aren't too many offset available for the FD so I've just gotten so use to being carful with buying wheels. I think they will do the job. I'm not looking for the perfect size wheels/ As long as they fit and it sounds like it will be wider then her steelies so i'm happy about that.

Actually, 17x7 +40 will clear most coilovers just fine. The +40 is overridden by the fact that the wheel is skinny.

17x7 +40 = 17x8 + 27

As for brakes, he can always do q45 brakes, and the offset has little to do w/ caliper clearance, there are +40 rims that will clear big brakes & +5 rims that won't, all depends on spoke design.

if you run the correct tire size for that wheel then youll be cutting it close with coilovers

yes spoke design determines brake clearance, but offset and width determine spoke design

Don't majority of coilover manufacturers recommend the "highest offset" wheel to be x8 +30? That's what I was told by our sponsors who carry Tein, KTS, etc.

x7 +40 = x8 +27, which gives more clearance than the "minimum specs" required.

run a 215/45/17 tire on the 17x7 like you should, and the sidewall will be squared up, causing problems...its not the wheel but the tire

when running a x8 +30 or +35 you need a 215 to clear, it gives the tire a slight stretch which lets it clear at that width and offset
