I changed out my hood struts last night and this morning I opened my hood without any trouble. But I bent the hood while closing it! OUCH.... The weird part of this is that I wasn't applying much force. I bought these hood struts from a local autoparts dealer for $35 a piece. I took them back to the store and they have decided to look into replacing everything for me. We'll see, but I'm not holding my breath. Next time I buy factory ones for a low low $157 a piece from Joe.

BTW does anyone know of a dark green hood for sale with struts for a 92 G50?

Ouch!

Once the hood struts are not moving, it does not take much force to bend the hood, unfortunately!

Like Archimedes said (words to this effect): Give me a place to stand and a lever long enough and I will move the world!

nooooo.sorry to hear of it, but at least we'll ALL learn the lesson. I bought one of Joe's beauties for $158 in April and later questioned myself about was it the right thing to do vs. $15 autozone.now I'm glad it was.

The wife came in this moring at about 7:30 to say that the alarm on "Q1" had a glitch (again) that causes the car not to start. The last time it happened, I left a 10mm wrench in the car so she could pull the negative battery cable for a second and reset it if it happened again...

At first I was proud that she was able to do it... then terrifed that if the hood hinges seized she'd try to force it and taco the hood. Kept me awake for about 10 minutes just thinking about it! Makes me want to go lube the hinges just to be sure...

Be very careful driving it if the hood isn't latching correctly. One member a year or two ago had the hood fly open and shatter the windshield after a "taco" incident.

Fortunately, green Q45s are quite common, and because of the Q's fantastic paint, buying a used hood is a pretty safe bet. See if the wrecking yards on car-part.com have any.

Bahahah, another one gets by the crappy infiniti hood design

NOt I am also a victim, but I decided not to replace the hinge(actually broke) with an OEM one, AND i'm not going to use the OEM hood either. When I finish my current project i'll be making a giberglass hood

I had the same problem as you. Only my hood flew open when i was driving. I had an indpendent mechanic fix my hood because it was bent in half and hang over the side of the car. He fixed the hinges and did some body work to the hood for $150. Looks almost new, only the points of the hood by the windhshield are a little bent. I would highly suggest body work over a new hood. The junk yard wanted 350 for a hood.
