I have a '93 J30t and want to install a set of 17" wheels on it. I have read several times that I can't do this without disabling the super HICAS. Why is that? What exactly goes wrong with the steering? Has anyone installed bigger wheels before disabling it?

I would imagine the prob would be the rear Tires rubbing when they turn.

I think a 16 is the biggest you can go w HiCAS, not completely sure, GL.

You can put bigger wheels on the car but you have to turn off the HICAS or 16's with it on are the biggest you can put on the car.

Nobody can tell me exactly why? I can't see where the bigger wheels would be a problem. I have 16" wheels on it now and it is fine.

Just trade your T for my non-T and get some 18s.But honestly, if the wheel is bigger but the tire is thinner, the overall diameter should be roughly the same, then I can't really see what the problem would be. I'm pretty sure there are people with Z32TTs that have bigger than 16" wheels. Granted, Z guys aren't really a fan of the HICAS, so maybe they disable theirs. Meh, I dunno.

I believe it has to do with the weight of the wheel. 17 are usually going to be heavier than the stock FORGED 15". The stockers only weigh like 13 lbs each. The weight messes up the hicas parts.

So, lets say it doesn't work with the larger wheels. How do I go about disabling the HICAS? As it sits right now I need new inner and out tierods out back anyway.

Well, there's this...http://www.z1motorsports.com/p...4c941...but it's made for the TT Z32, so I don't know if everything will be the same. Z1 might know. Call them?

Thats going to cost more than installing new tie rod ends. I think I'll throw the wheels on the car this weekend and see what happens.

If you mess up the HICAS system, its quite expensive to fix. Just get the disable kit for everythinginfiniti.com. Its not expensive.

I can't find the kit anywhere on the site.
