well the HRi tires that were on it when i got it are shot so i'm trying to replace them. the tires on it were 205/40R17 on Exel Ennio 17x7 rims. I'm trying to go 225 in teh back and 215 up front. the question i have is about the aspect ratio, is there a big difference between 40 series and 45 series. it had 40s on it and i just wanna make sure i dont go w/ something that would put the speedo out of whack, since it seemed fine w/ the 40s. the only problem i have is that i cant find any decent tires that arent crazy expensive in 225/40R17. would it be ok to go 225/45R17 and 215/45R17 or not? i pretty much just wanna know what series is correct to have teh speedo as accurate as possible w/ 17" rims? thank you

45 will be accurate for the speedo? why 215 and not wider?

given that u have 17x7 rims and an unknown offset, I'm going to assume +40.... if u run anything larger than 215 its gonna rub against the coilovers (if u have them). And yes, a 215/45/17 is about as close as ur gonna get to the OEM tire diameter.

Vidra: Not true.

225/45/17 will clear rear coilovers on a 17x7 +42. BUT, it wont clear up front.

BTW, dont stagger tires on identical sized wheels. Run a 215/45/17 all the way around.

I agree with White.... I was debating whether to add about clearing the rear jus fine but I figured he knew that (I guess you got me this time!). As well, I wasn't about to have my man staggering his tires either! Good Points made!
