sup guys, I'm starting to get some money coming in and of course as you can all see I'm still stuck with the base s14 steelies/hub cap combo..

since I'm on a serious budget with college, and some other mods I wanna do to my car(like brake upgrades) I think it would be a good idea to just get 4 steelies and widen the backs to some real sweet widths and offsets.

I can probably get these wheels for free from a buddy of mine, since he works at a dodge dealer, so widening would be the only real cost to think about. These are the steelies I'm thinking about widening, they are 17x7's +22 and they come standard on the base 300's and Magnum's:

This setup has been in the back of my mind for at least a year now, and I think I'm finally gonna go ahead and do it!

Anyways a big question of mine would be if any of you guys know a place in the socal area that does awesome, professional wheel widening services, because I really don't wanna ship them to Stockton or DRW in Winsconsin.........also any positive or negative opinions are welcome! thanks

YES I WILL!! The catch is finding a shop local that will widen the wheels exactly the way I want them..but yeah the image in my mind is a slammed red kouki on flush rear 17" blacked-out steelies camber'd out (erhem, with chrome-polished lug nuts of course like the '71 GTR)

but I need some help finding a reputable shop that does wheel widening, a few shops have said they can't do the 10" width or the low offset, or the 17's period...I'm gonna try and shoot for maybe a 17x9.5 or 17x10 +18mm...

If thats the look youre going for, then by all means pursue it. I dont think it would be worth the cost of widening the wheels.

BTW, I dont think the 300/Charger/Magnum uses our 5x114.3 bolt pattern.

nah I'm 100% sure they are 5x114.3 they bolt on the fords also

These aren't the flattest steelies so they will look pretty decent, being 17's and a somewhat low offset..widened steelies just look way sweeter and can hold a 265/40 size tire...

They use 5x115 to be exact. Lots of lx body guys run 5x114.3 instead of 115. On one of the forums people widened stock wheels but I don't remember if they were the steelies or not. I'll look around a little later for ya.

thanks dude, 5x115 huh? man I never even heard of that bolt pattern lol, as far as I know, they will bolt on a ford mustang and I've seen 240's with mustang rims so ispo facto-they should fit...If I could widen the rears I would definitely do this.

O no doubt they will work no worries about that man. There's bound to be someone in cali willing to widen them.

Well I looked real quick and couldn't find anything about widening the stock 17 steelies. All the threads I saw involved the srt 20s. Sorry man. I'm glad I went to look though. I haven't been on the forums in a while and it seems the twin turbo kits are up and running pretty much Good luck

Look on v.w. forums, that's the only cars I have ever seen with widened steelies. I'll keep an eye on this thread, if the price is reasonable i'll bandwagon.

thanks guys, yep theres Diamond Racing Wheels that have those steelies that look like the NASCAR wheels..not really for me, I want to look somewhat original.

I've also looked on the Vdub forums, they mainly have like old skool 14s and 15s and a few places said they don't do 17's...I'm gonna keep trying though, this will be the "baller steelies" thread haha.

Yea i was going to bring them up as well but couldn't remember the name at the time. I looked around the net real fast for places that widen stock rims but couldn't find anywhere that went beyond 17x8. Most places do 16s -14s from what I saw which included 16x12s, 14x10s, and so on. I have seen widened motorcycle rims so someone has to do wide 17s for cars.

man yesterday while googling some shops, I came across a craigslist listing that said he had those wheels widened to like 17x10! Link was removed but sorta made me think that this could be done..unless the wheels were widened by adding positive offset which is how many shops widen stock aluminum alloy wheels.

I've been reading about some hardcore camaro guys doing some DIY wheel widening..f***, I might just read up on what's involved and try it myself

Or maybe i'll infiltrate the dodge manufacturing plant and have the machine stamp me two 17x10 +15 offset lol

Contact diamond racing wheels in regards to widening. I know it's something they can do.

Browse some of their wheels. You might find something you like better while keeping with that style.

yeah i did, they said they couldn't widen the 17's at all, saying that the Inner diameter was 13.5" or something..i don't know what that means, but they said they couldn't help me out with those sizes, the max being 17x8. I think I'm gonna just get some n/a z32 wheels for the time being then throw the widened steelies out back later...I love the look of alloys in front and black steelies out back
