17 inch steelies and winter tires on qx56?

Hi, i was wondering...i was thinking about buying winter tires/steel rims for the qx56...it's my first winter with the car, and I have no idea how it handles. Some ppl say that a big suv with awd should be fine in the winter,, other ppl say that i should get winter tires/rims...any thoughts?

Also, the site that i bought my previous winter tire /rims suggested a 17inch rim/winter tire package. Is this ok for the qx56, especially since OEM is 18inch?
