new territory for me with these sizes. i know the rears will fit just fine but what about 16x9.5 on the front?? i want them to come all the way out to the fenders but not way the fuk out, but still clear my coilovers. also what size tire would be best suited for this size? i was wanting to run a nice fat 265 on the rear. will a 265 work on the front, or is that outta the question? the rims i want go from 16x8 to 16x9.5 and then to 16x10. if they had 16x9 id probably do that all around. or if they had a 16x8.5 id go staggered with the 9.5 out back. will 16x9.5 all around with a +25 clear everything and not look too gay? and what size width tire for the front?

wont clear the shock. 265 will take a lot of hammering and it will boil your power steering pretty quick if you do any roadcourse/drift. besides what tires are you gonna run anyway. the only 265 wide 16" tire is gonna be either swampers or slicks.

dude russell, get the fuk outta my thread! if you dont have anything useful to post then get out you fag. i love the wheels on my car right now. but i know for damn sure theyre not gonna keep up with 400 whp. and yes i was browsing tires today after i made the thread and found that 245 is the widest for 16''. damn! so that 9.5'' on the front wont clear my coilovers? damn i really need something wider than 245 out back too, and the wheels i want only go up to 16''. could go the 16x8, 16x9.5 route and run 225 up front and 245 out the azz. OR i have some c5 vette wheels in my garage that are sized 17x8.5, and 18x9.5. now i think i just may do that as i want a fat tire out back and i know i can get that with 18''. but i know im gonna get rapped on an adapter for those things.

you wont put the power down any better with a 9.5 rear than you would with your current size, straight line traction is all in the tire compound

it sounds like youre looking at custom wheels with those sizes, max for 16s is 16x8 front, 16x9 rear, with a 225 / 245, and i dont even know how many wider tires youll find in those sizes

if you want wider than a 225 for looks purposes, id go with a larger wheel, 17s or a 17/18 like youve got...i dont know what the other specs besides the size on c5 wheels are but those sizes can work if the wheels would fit

400whp around sebring on 225s out back? im running hankook rs2s as of right now and theyre sticky for what they are but no R compound though. the 16'' wheels i was looking at are spun forged aluminum. similar to what devious ka runs on his s13 but made by a different manufacturer that i saw in my racer wholesale catalog. they weigh in at 14lbs a piece for the 16x8 and 9.5 and cost about 240 a piece. the c5 wheels arent the same 5 lug pattern as are 5lug 240s (5x114), but im 4 lug so that doesnt make a difference. i think im making my decision right now as i type these words. for those 16s it would be about $1k and i wouldnt be able to get a fat 265 or larger out back because of the 16'' only size. i already have the c5 wheels and didnt pay a nickel for them. i can sell my enkeis, get some 4-5 adapters made for 300 bones and run yet another wheel that nan otha nigga gots on his S. thanks for the help mcrussell!

Extra width is only going to give you more lateral grip. Traction (grip) is completely dependent on other factors like tire compounds, suspension, whether you have an LSD or not, etc.

Take a minute to browse some of the suspension and tire faq's that are stickied in this forum. They are more in-depth.

Nismo, wider tires DO help with straight line grip. Tire grip cannot be analyzed effectively with 1st year physics. The tire's interaction with the ground is not a flat rectangle. It molds to the surface, and hooks around imperfections.

why do you want 16s? 16s belongs on s13s.

i'm not familiar with s14s but from what ive seen it fits abotu 1/2" wider width than s13. if you can get a measurement of what clearance you have from shock and how much gap from lip of wheel to fender then i can do a better calculation.

but i'd be willing to guess 16x9.5 +12-20~ 9.5 is harder to clear for the shock so camber will need to be induced

tire grip and all these weird physics is too difficult for me lol. trial and error for the win lol.

well the rims i wanted came in a max diameter of 16''. 16s look perfectly fine btw. check my sig for reference....those are 16s. the only reason why im upping from 16s is because 245 is the widest tire ive seen for 16. since i already have 17x8.5 and 18x9.5 in the garage thats what ill be going with now. however, i do have to get some custom adapters made. and christ are fuking 18'' tires $$$$$$. planning on running 235-45-17 and 265-35-18.

run either a 245 front or 255 rear, 20mm is a better stagger
