Hey,

I'm going to be getting wheels very soon for my new Versa but im not sure if I should go 16 or 17. I'm not planning to lower it or anything like that and i dont wanna get 17 if its gonna look like a monster truck. I saw a few pics here and there by searching but if anyone has some good shots of their Versas on 17s or 16s (esp. 16s), throw em up for me. Thanks.

I have no specs to give you but if you go with 17s then you should change the profile of the tire so that the overall diameter stays the same. That way your speedometer and odometer remain accurate

If you go to my site you will see my Versa on 17s and if you go to tire rack they will recommend tire size so that it is the same as factory and your speedometer will be fine. The set up I have is the exact same height as the stock rims and tires. So it shouldn't look like a "monster truck" when you get done it will look just as it does now......just better looking rims and tires.Hopes this helps you out

There are many reasons for going with either size. On my Mini Cooper, I have the stock 16s and a set of summer 17s. Both sets are the same diameter but the 17s look more aggressive. If you're changing rims to change the look, 17s or even 18s are generally accepted as better looking. The stock size of the Versa wheel/tire is actually large for a car it's size. My 99 Integra has tiny wheels in comparison, and are small than the Mini's, which are just a touch smaller than the Versa (I'm referring to overall height.)

If you're after performance, the lighter the wheel, the better the performance. And every pound is very noticeable. A 16" wheel requires a tire with a taller side wall but the size wall is lighter than the rim material. And the mass of the rim is closer to the hub. (The mass of the tire, and it's relative location, is about the same for both tires.) In my case, my 17s are SSR forged wheels and are <13lbs each. When they're on the Mini (non-supercharged) it's very noticeable in the acceleration and the handling. With the 16s, you could go with a shorter sidewall, and thus a shorter tire. This will change the speedo but you'll get less tickets because it will always read high.

If you're worried about comfort, it's not that big of an issue as it was 5 years ago. The low profile tires (<=45) of today come in a variety of stiffnesses. Although, given the same tire, the 16 will ride better. And for any given wheel style, the 16 will be lighter.

In the end, the tire gap and the arc of the tire will be the same as stock, the difference is the tire area to wheel area ratio. There are some good wheels available in both sizes. I suggest the 17s in a lightweight, like the Kosei K1 TS. You'll have the best of all worlds.

yeah i hear yah about weight issues and stuff like that. I had some rotas on my focus that where 13 lbs. but this car is gonna be for more or less cruising for the next few years so im not really concerned with weight (but obviously dont wanna go over board...so basically i just wanted to see if a versa on 17s isnt gonna look awkward.

whats a good tire size for 17s if i go with that, cuz i def dont want rubber bands on these things seeing as ill be doing alot of driving wit hthis car. let me know thanks.

For an all-season, I recommend Pirelli Nero M&S. I have a set of 16's on my GSR. They're quite a comfortable ride while still maintaining good limit performance. (Progressive break-away and such.) Also, although I don't have any direct experience with them, the Bridgestone RE960AS PP is supposed to be excellent.

If you're looking for summer only, all of my experience is with performance tires with fairly stiff side walls. That would include Yoko ES100, Kuhmo 711 and MX, and Falken RT-615. None of which would be "comfort" oriented.

On my Beetle I use to have Nexen 3000, and for my Versa I'm getting the same tire. It's a great tire. I've used them for a couple seasons and had no problems.
