I'm so mad now and need to vent my anger. Couple weeks ago I stopped at a red light and pulled out my iphone to check the map (not talking or any kind of communication). 10 seconds later I realized a cop was next to me so I dropped my phone almost immediately. As soon as green light on, he pulled me over and gave a citation for " hand held phone" . I was like "honestly sir there are thousands and thousands of people in Cali talk or use phone while driving even our Arnold's wife got caught for 3 times, why me ? " Anyway he still standby his decision. I was not mad until the I got my ticket arrived on the mail today. $166 for a f*** ticket. :wtf2:

I believe those are only valid if construction workers are present.

yah, NY is looking for any way to get money. and I'm sure there are court costs as well. i had to pay $240 for my last ticket (non-moving violation), but was a h*ll lot better then the 20mph speeding ticket that was origionally issued. 8pts on a drivers licence and a fine that would probably be rediculous. I got lucky.

if you're at a red light stopped. i believe they CAN'T give you a ticket. because technically you are NOT driving, you are stopped. another member was on his phone at a red light and he pointed to the red light when the cop looked at him and he couldn't do anything because the vehicle wasn't in motion.

OK, get ready to start flaming and blaming me for being a prude, because I'm going to buck the tide. You've hit one of my hot buttons. I empathize with your frustration, but: Fidgeting with cell phones while driving -- including "stopped" at a red light (where many an accident has occurred) -- is not safe, and is discourteous to other drivers, as well. "Hands free" means "hands free", and hands are indeed needed to drive safely. The argument that "everyone does it" is not persuasive -- something dumb doesn't become smart because "everyone" does it. "Everyone" should stop it. How many times have you (like me) been stuck behind some boob who's holding a phone conversation and not paying attention to the road, other drivers, the lights, and maintaining proper speed? A car can be a lethal weapon, so stop complaining about the enforcement of rules that are justified for the safety and proper flow of driving! Do you like to drive your AC fast? If some bozo is fooling around with his cell phone while you're cruising past him, do you want to be the next traffic fatality -- or cause someone else's death -- because he didn't notice you coming up beside him? If you don't like expensive tickets don't commit expensive safety violations.

Thats why I have a 6spd, kinda hard to talk and shift at the same time lol. but yah, talking on the cell while driving is dangerous for everyone on the road, I hate it when some a$$**e talking on his cell cuts into my lane. but thats pretty much everyone in NY. on a side note: lets up the anty, texting while driving (dont get me started  )

i think it depends on the person. for example....

not everyone knows how to drive safely while speeding (going over posted speed limit), whereas other drivers do. or like driving through the mountains, people get all crazy with it cause they don't know how to control their car, where in other cases a lot of other people do. the same thing goes for switching lanes, passing cars and so on. depending on the surrounding area and the people, i think (not saying its OK) but some people know know to multi task while driving. othewrwise listening to the radio, talking to your passenger and other things would be illegal too. just because some people don't know how to do it correctly and safely, doesn't mean that everyone else is an ***hole for doing it.

i have txtd ppl, and answered my phone while i was driving before. but i put my phone on speaker, and i only txt when there are no other cars directly by me and i am still looking at the road (i can tell which letters are which without looking on my phone)

The thing I can suggest to get around this would be to get a windshield or vent dock for you phone. When you're using Google Maps or whatever it's simple touch and no holding. I know that's worked for a few people.
