Hi guys, how u all doing? I am new to the site and this is my first discussion. I do have a question. I have a 99 i30 which had a 16" rims and i change it to a 18". However, it works well with only one problem. On the driver side the wheel will rub against the wheel houding when ever i makes deep turns. Is it because of the 18 rim or another problem. I do see people used 18's all the time on these maximas and i30's can any one gave me an answer to my question?

there are MANY factors... the overall size of the wheel is generally not the problem

things to look for... wheel width (if its wider, it might be closer to the fender) and offset (might be pushed further towards the fender).... tire size (is it taller or wider than your last set overall? if so, it might be too big)

you can't just throw on any set of 18's and expect them to work

bend over, grab your ankles..... and enjoy your stay at NICO

Outside tire diameter can actually be very similar between a 16'' wheel and an 18'' wheel depending on sidewall profile. If you plug your info into this page it'll help you figure out how your tire diameter and width compare from your old set to the new set.http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

But, as pezi noted, offset can be the biggest factor. Offset is directly related to wheel width and determines how sunk into the wheel well (or how flush with the fender) your wheel/tire combo fits.

Do you know how wide the wheels (both sets) are?

yeah... that only covers the tires... not the wheel... the tires are already wider by those numbers (245 vs 225)
