I figured out my boostcontrollers problem. The learn mode doesnt work well on sr cars. Ok so Im tuning it right.....low setting holds 10psi great. I go to set up the high setting, and I start to see detonation at 15+psi. I have nismo 555cc injectors that flow at 615, z32 mafs, jwt tune ecu, and a walbro. It feels like between 350 and 400hp. Does this sound right to anyone? I figured I could run at least 17 or 18psi with this set up. I dont know what the problem is. Im running 93 octane. Any help would be great and the turbo is the .86. BTW, does small amounts of detonation hurt your car really bad? I got into detonation 3 times while trying to turn the boost to where I didnt feel it. please let me know. Thanks

The turbo isn't quite into its efficiency range at 15psi. I think 17psi is where it starts to make real power. I'm running 19psi on mine and even a little above that with no problems. I don't think you're seeing even 350hp at that lower boost and with the JWT tune. JWT tunes are tuned pretty heavily on the safe side so you won't see max gains from them.

However, I would suggest that you change your fuel filter to a new Z32 unit, and try that. Mine had some problems before and it turned out my filter was clogged.

You can also close up the gap in your plugs a bit so the spark won't get blown out by the boost.

MAKE SURE that all your hose clamps are tight on your piping. Its possible for them to be just a hair loose and when it gets above 15psi you are developing a boost leak

Check and reset ignition timing. Check spark plug gaps. Move to 1 step colder spark plugs.

Sounds to me like you are experiencing ignition breakup or too rich to fire. If you truely ever experienced detonation, you do not actually "feel" it unless your body is full of robotic sensors. Often at times, you should hear pinging or preignition/knock. A missfire can be felt and is pretty common and is usually related to ignition system problems. Sometimes it can be related to too rich of a fuel mixture drowning the spark. Best thing to do is get a wideband on there to make sure you are not running lean. Too lean can often cause misses too but more in a bucking fashion in the lower rpm range. If your afr's check out, I would suggest looking into your ignition system. I've seen SR coilpacks do retarded things in my many experiences. The thing is, you can test them via FSM way, and they will still check out and seem sound (faking the funk?). Get a wideband on there to find out what's really happening.

I think I found the problem....I need to regap my spark plugs. Theyre gapped at 35 and need to be at 28. I replaced my fuel filter with a z32 one, so thats taken care of. Im getting some hks cams installed on tuesday and Im gonna get that guy to do my spark plugs and do a boost leak check b/c Im pretty sure I aquired one today:) Jeff at heavythrottle to me about the spark plug issue and he was like 99 percent sure that was my problem. I described it to him and he said hes seen it many times. I experienced it in my supra, but it was way more noticable in it.lol. Thanks guys and any other advice would be great

true true. fuel management would probally help alot to fine tune your set up

I got it figured out!!! It was my spark plug gap. they were at 0035 and I got them regapped to 28. It happily boosts to 20 psi and is much more of a beast.....actually its kinda scary.
