Quick questions guys. I have been quoted $197.00 for a 15K service on my '05 G coupe. It is actually $197 + $40 for my oil change under the maintenance program. SO I guess technically the cost is $237.00 but I only pay the $197.00.

Does this sound right for what they have to do. I just wanted a second opinion.

Thanks,Brandon

Maintenances other than 90 day oil changes and annual other fluid changes and annual filter [fuel tranny air] changes and tire rotations and balances and brake pad/ rotor measurements are not required. Drive belt changes[Nissan doesn't require all these----my personal perscription for longevity]

When it comes to helping you out with a future Nissan warranty claim, dealers always look at how much a customer has spent with them. How much after the sale profit they have gotten from you, as to whether they want to mess with warranty or suggest you go somewhere else.

The service department has only 2 sources of revenue: Customer paid and Warranty.

Warranty reimbursement generally pays fewer hours than customer paid. The service department cannot survive on warranty alone.

um.........ok not sure there was an answer in there.

I really mean no disrespect when I say this but I am not concerned about how the service department survives, I am concerned with getting the best price on service.

I have personally spent about $160K on Infiniti's since the car lines inception and I have referred another $300M in business to my dealership over the last five years. People like me insure that the owner of my dealership makes his Bentley GT payment on time. While I don't expect things for free I do expect to not pay what every Joe off the street does.

At this point in my relationship with the dealer I don't have to.

I know that may come across as rude and I really don't mean it that way I am just stating a fact.

When you read the manual for the 15K service, the majority is covered under my maintenance program except for some filter changes and small things etc. I was just concerned about how these small things add up to over $200?

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate your feedback and have a great day.

Brandon

Anybody who knows what he/she is doing can change all the fluids and filters. The key is finding a less expensive worker without management overhead. Unfortunately the quicky lube places pay so little that the quality/education part is missing and the probably of problems increases.

As a 3 store independent we charge $75/hr vs dealers $100- $125[LEXUS].yet we pay our techs $22 plus benefits [vacation holidays health insurance SS] ~~$34/hour.

To maintain the warranty all you have to do is prove in writing by a shop dated with mileage specifying oil weight and filter number that the oil and filter were changed with quality products every 180 days or 7500 miles.

All the other stuff has to do with extending the vehicle life beyond warranty period. Or proving you didn't abuse the vehicle.

Thanks for the FYI. That is helpful.

I only wish I had a trained reliable technician like you here in Dallas then I could avoid the dealership all together.

Unfortunately, we have alot of mom and pops around here that are not well-trained and I hate risking new business with someone that likely won't/ can't produce.

Too bad I am not in Georgia. Do you know of any good independents here in Dallas by chance?

Thanks,Brandon

I'm not a dealer technican, tech stands for technical, just an engineer who has owned and worked on Infiniti for the past 16 years.
