My aunt and uncle were in a motorcycle accident last week and I drove myself and mom down to Atlanta to see them. I used a tank of gas to get there and a tank of gas to get back and had to fill up one more time to get around this week.

I only drive six miles to work and back and I am not use to taking long trips in the Q-ship but dang. Next time I will have to rob a bank if I am going to drive that far.

Side note, people in Atlanta drive like Satan herself is after them. I will admit I drive fast or so I thought but I felt like I needed a helmet and number on the side of my car. I looked down once, because I was too scared to take my eyes off the road, and I was doing ninety in the RIGHT lane and was getting past.

What a nerve racking experience.

Around six hundred miles give or take but usually just under normal driving conditions for me that would take me two months.

Not use to those long hauls.

Only 90, must have been rush hour. A Q blows everybody away when you hit passing gear [2nd gear] at 85 mph to change lanes. But not as exciting as a full power 540 degree turn on the street [not interstate] and go the other way as if nothing interesting just happened.

Part of the BMW testing facility, drive the new models down from SC to check their suitability on our Autobahn==I285 test loop.

$153 in 600 miles are you sure that would be like 25 cents per mile or 12.8 mpg?

That was the total amount I put in after three days. I still have plenty left since Monday. It just took one fill up both ways. I just had to fill up again after I got back.

I think I got around 20/22 mpg.

Atlanta and Chicago are great places to drive!

Here in St Louis the whole world will come to a stop so a blue-hair in a Lesabre can cross all the way to the left lane.

Right check out the I5 autobabn someday, now that road moves! Interstate 101 also during bright dayligh hours moves too, I once got my dad's old 92' up to 140 to catch a S class Benz just to see how fast he was really going. I usually get my 97' up to 125 on I5 2 or 3 times just for fun when i drive from SF to LA.

I-40 from Nashville to Knoxville can be a lotta fun, too. Granted, it's not urban traffic, but whew, y'all like to MOVE along that stretch.

I don't have another cross-country trip until August and I have no idea what it'll cost this time, typically 3300 miles @ 21 mph = 157 gals. Probably be over $500. But, interestingly, that's not a lot more, couple hundred maybe - insignificant on a trip of that size.

It's worse on daily commuters. I'll be starting that when we move to the lake for the summer. 110 mile round trip, 6 days a week. 5.24 gallons a day. At an extra buck a gallon, that's an extra $31/week, $135/month for 3 months. Still not awful.

Anyone noticed that inflation is still rising? Something over 4%. It's going to show up in every item that has to be shipped. THAT'S where it's gonna cost us.

I get what you're saying about other countries, but the point is this is America. We wouldn't be able to cry about high gas prices if we never had lower ones, right or wrong? If gas in Germany and other countries have always had their prices this high they don't know there is a difference

Oh yeah. Atlantans like to drive fast. Its the only way to get from one side of the city to the other in less than a day.

Q45tech is right. Rush hour drives are done at 80mph+. In the evenings (8-10pm), 100mph is common.

Dont know if youve seen this vid of some GA State students driving 55mph in all four lanes. Look how much traffic backs up behind them...http://video.google.com/videop...45475This was on the east side of the perimeter, one of the fastest stretches of I-285.

I hope to be back in Atlanta this summer.

My wife is also currently in Berlin, Germany, at the moment, visiting relatives. In law has new 500 S Klass Benz, and I asked last Sunday what benzin (petrol/gas/essence/whackempucky/whatever) was selling for there and, as I always do, fell into prayer of thanksgiving for our $3 gas when she told me the litre price there! On Mallorca last September, Germans and Brits were giddy because Spanish petrol was less than $6 per gal (you saw lots of small vehicles, many with diesels of less than a litre engine capacity)! I would counsel America to get used to high energy costs, because it is not going to ever change! (Hey! I use a Suburban to travel across country, and it has a 42 gal tank! I do not even think about the cost, just happy to have gas available!)

[rant]The other country price excuse is retarded. I'm sorry, but guess what, we don't live there. Knowing that they pay more doesnt make it hurt less when I have to fill up my car. Raising prices here based on other countries is retarded. They have mass transit systems that we don't have. Maybe we have to catch up, but until then "everywhere else" isn't a valid excuse. As far as I'm concerned its the greedy people profiting BILLIONS that are to blame. I don't buy any of the speculation or excuses about supply, demand, china... it is because of one word... GREED. Too expensive? Get a different car already or stop driving so much.

I'm looking forward to the increases of gas prices. It'll weed out everyone who drives a lot and the highways will be less clogged. I can honestly afford gas aslong as it doesnt top $6/gallon. After we go above $6/gallon, I might consider carpooling or mass transit.

Bingo!!! The other day NBC Nightly news mentioned something about how gas is expensive all aroumd the world right now except Iran and Venezuela, and showed some prices of Europe, USA, Japan etc. What they failed to mention is that the % of the increase in Europe has NOTHING to do with our increase here in the States given equal time frame.ie. what were they(Europeans) paying per liter 2 years ago vs. now.

On a happier note, yesterday I went to the gas station and asked the guy for 5 bucks worth of gas...... he turned around and farted.

I remember about 12-13 years ago I was buying diese fuel (in Europe) for .15$ a Liter. That was CHEAP!

Isn't it .445/mile? Keep a close eye because they may raise it upto .48/mile soon.

Just as the target demographics for a new lux car are the > $150,000 per year household.............the targets for a used V8 one should be half that amount...........Just 25% of new cars/trucks are V8 or >.

Can't wait until South Park does Gas.......they took our jobs and now our gas.

mmmmmm no, thats ok.

I actually just started buying gas from a local Mobil station after using BP for a few years. They are the only station nearby that doesn't mix 10% ethanol. I've already noticed a difference after switching.

They aren't the ones controlling the prices, if they were, they would be the only ones with high prices. So target someone else.

^ You obviously didnt understand the logic of the article. The object was to force them to lower their price buy reducing the demand for the gasoline. Once they become less expensive, the other brands will have to lower their prices as well.

The caveat here is consumer behavior. You seem committed to purchasing Mobile/Exxon fuel. My uncle is the same way and I'm sure there are plenty of other brand loyal consumers who are willing pay a premium to purchase their preferred brand.

My opinion is that boycotting Exxon will cause them to lower their price. But when demand returns, the price will return to its former level before other companies have a chance to react. The second flaw is that individually owned retailers chose the actual selling price, not the oil producing corporation (though they have enormous influence)...
