Yesterday I took my 2013 Rogue in for an oil change and they told me since I was just over 15k miles (when I bought it it had about 8500) I needed the air filter and brake fluid exchange done in addition to the oil change. Total cost was about $250. I still take my car to the dealer because it's still under warranty.

Is this something that I actually need done every 15k, or are they just trying to get more money out of me? I don't want to void the warranty, but that seems steep. They said everything is in great shape, brakes, tires are good, no corrosion on the battery.

Thanks!

Dealers tend to follow the more severe schedule 1 maintenance, per the brake fluid, if you driving conditions are severe, it's recommended,
if not, schedule 2 doesn't list it. so it's really on you to choose the schedule 1 or schedule 2 maintenance. The oil change and cabin filter is on both schedules, the cabin filter is a cheap part from the auto store and a fairly simple DIY job and not having the dealer do stuff would not void your warranty.

as someone who is super anal & meticulous about maintenance (due to the safety aspect); i do brake fluid every year. its hyper critical to the proper functionality of your brakes. brake fluid is naturally very hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the atmosphere) so its decreased the braking power of your car, till there is none. a dealer usually charges about $110 for this, as it requires 2 people. (one to pump the brakes, the other to drain). its a 15 minutes process.

cabin filter, i change every year to help with allergy spikes. otherwise, you can go 2 years without changing it. believe me, it helps cut down on the sneezing & coughing. a dealer charges about $50 for this. its a 5 minutes process.

the $250 sounds steep, but thats only because you did it at the dealer. you could have easily found a local shop to do it for half that price. just keep your receipts in case of any warranty claims.
$35 conventional oil & filter change
$50 brake fluid drain
$35 for cabin filter
= $120
