Recently, after not starting the car for 7 days, the battery died on my 2008 Rogue. We were just about to bring it in for our 15,000 mile check up. My questions are: 1) isn't that toooooo early for the battery to die? though after a jump it's working now, and 2) the 15000 check up is expensive at the dealership! Is $300+ normal for a check up? Should we try another mechanics?

thanks!

Did you leave anything on in the car? A dome-light or something? Sounds like your battery isn't shot.. just got drained during that period when you didn't drive it.

As far as 15k mile checkups... $300 doesn't sound out of line for that exam. It just depends on the level of maintenance you desire for the vehicle. The bare minimum is to keep up with routine oil changes and tire rotations, but the more you do above and beyond, the better condition you'll keep your car.

The majority of the cost goes to paying labor time for visual inspection. Ask them to give you a line by line explanation of what the money is going for. Then you can decide if you want to spend the money on those tasks. If you can do any of those things yourself and not pay them for it... fantastic!

i checked for a light or something that had been left on in the car for those 7 days and found nothing. so i don't understand why the battery would drain to leave the car inoperable after 7 days. i'll ask them when i go in for the 15000 mile, after asking for the line-by-line detail of the service! thanks for the reply.
