Hello everyone,
Let me start off with whats the issue before I ramble: This morning, vehicle cold, tried to start the car, looked like it started only for it to turn off or power died not sure. But then on 2nd crank attempt the dash lights would flicker and I could hear what sounds like either the fuel pump relay or the pump itself actuating BUT big BUT its on and off really fast as long as I leave they key acc on position, instead of hearing the steady stream from the pump priming its a stutter like if its on/off/on/off really fast. Turning the key I get no crank. The dash backlight also flickers at the same interval as the sound. Didn't have time to check any thing since I needed to get to work.
But last night I had finished the spark plug change, at first when I had finished. The car cranked and engine started but I forgot about tightening the hose clamp down from the air cleaner housing & forgot to plug in the throttle body cable so gave me some codes and wouldn't accelerate. Okay tightened the hose clamp remembered about the cable and viola car started codes went away and test drove for about 20 minutes roughly 15-20 miles not far just to a subway and back.
This was last night the vehicle had to still be slightly warm from me driving around for a bit before I let it cool down for me to work on, followed along with some video guides from youtube to get an idea how to get the components off the engine to get to the spark plugs. Lots of hoses and clamps, I want to say 6 in total, 3 that were from the throttle body, 1 that came off the air housing hose before the MAF, then two hoses on the left side of the intake assembly. As for cables I unplugged the throttlebody, Intake valve timing control solenoid valve cable, and then the coils. I tried to leave anything that didn't need to be touched untouched but getting that assembly off was a annoying to say the least.
I did spill some engine coolant on coils 3 & 4 when I unplugged the hose from the throttlebody but wasn't a lot and plugged the hose hole with paper towel and continued, the seals looked good only was on the valve cover cleaned up the coils and swapped the spark plugs.
I am not sure how to diagnose this, my first idea was to try jumping the car but I do remember trying to turn on the internal lights and they turned on no problem my guess is the battery is fine but not sure. I do have a voltmeter but need to see what values I should be looking for if the battery is good. Next I was going to read up on the relay and test those, not sure how to do that either but i think a resistance/ground test?
Anyone ever encounter this after a spark plug replacement?
The fuel pump was replaced last year around this time now that I think of it, was the first issue I had with the vehicle, got it done at the Nissan dealership under warranty, but wasn't purchased from them directly. & the previous owner has done some modifications that I've been trying to get back to stock most of it being cosmetic but they had gutted the air cleaner assembly and cold air intake swapped (poorly done). Recent work I had done was the front suspension LCA, Swaybar links, quick strut assembly, brakes/rotors. got the oem air cleaner housing & hoses.
First time I swapped the plugs since I got the car which is about a year now poor judgement on my part but they were bad and glad I did just need to figure out what else is going on.
Thank you if read this far.
