Past few days I was hearing a metal on metal grinding sound from the passenger front wheel under light braking and assumed it needed new pads after 143k miles. Never heard the wear indicator screech but ok. So I swap in new pads and the outer pads are down to metal while the inners are looking about a year old. Is this working as intended?

One side or the other will almost always wear a little faster because the side with the piston is relieved directly by the square-cut piston seal, the opposite side is relieved indirectly by the sliders. However, that's pretty extreme, so it's a pretty fair guess that your sliders are sticky on both sides. If you didn't remove, clean, and grease them when you replaced the pads, you need to.

Thanks, this makes perfect sense. I'll do this when I bleed the system this weekend.
