How much did they write as the value for the package? If it came UPS thats all they care about, they take a percentage plus a base fee. If you get the company to mark it as a gift it would have been less than $20

Thats why i stick with canadian companies only now

I feel your pain man. I bought a MAF senor from them for 100 usd and paid 57CAN for brokerage fee. They charged that much cause they used standard(faster shipping). If you went with expeditional(something like that) you would only have to pay Taxes on the product and it would have taken a day or two longer.

Courier company, I assume? UPS, FedEx, etc. UPS is the worst for brokerage fees.

I bought some hockey gear a few years ago from the states, sweet deal until the package arrived and UPS demanded $90 for brokerage fees. My jaw just dropped as I paid the guy, the gear was only something like $350. That's an extra 25% fee. I think a lot of Canadians have been ripped off this way, especially a few years ago when the exchange rate was sweet and there were tons of deals to be had from US stores, so we all feel your pain.

I still look for deals from the states, but always make sure they ship USPS. If they only offer UPS/FedEx and it's a really good deal, I'll ask them if they'll make an exception and ship USPS this one time. If they don't, ask them to ship it as a gift and/or really lowball the price marked on the package.

Another way around it is to have the company ship to the UPS/FedEx station closest to the border and make a little road trip. If you're an honest person you'll pay custom fees on it, but it's nominal compared to brokerage fees.

I did this once, got a great deal on some Hakkas but shipping cross-border would have killed the price. So I shipped to Sweetgrass, Montana, which is literally spitting distance from the border. Took a couple days off, little six-hour road trip to Montana, along the way met up with friends in Calgary and Lethbridge and really made the trip worthwhile.

Probably quite a bit easier/quicker for you to pull something like that, you're a bit closer to the border than I am.

I gotta say that's pretty terrible. I almost sold(jackass flaked out) a $1,200 USD Scuba Diving DrySuit to a guy in Canada and he explained to me how you guys get railed with declared value and using carriers. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's a lot cheaper going the other way.

I think they're talking about the strips along the bottom of the door windows that rust out all the time. Two fronts and two rears. I changed mine out 2 years ago. Ordered them from Courtesyparts, but had them shipped to a friend in Virginia.UPS is definitely the worst re: fees. I refuse to use them anymore.

Hey, their corporate colour is brown for a reason: You get it in the a** every time you deal with them.

Yeah my ex's dad did that to save ALOT of money, he was restoring a mustang from the ground up, and had HUNDREDS of orders and individual parts, so he got a p/o box or something in buffalo, just got everything shipped there, and made the 1 hour trip every 2 weeks or something. Saved him thousands im sure, he literally built the car from the ground up through ebay lol

UPDATE: yesterday i left a note on my door saying nobody is home until after 5pm. They left their little slip NEXT TO IT saying theyd be here for their third attempt today between 12-5...WOW. so of course i missed that. Then i called in and was nice and the agent had an accent and was a TOTAL PRICK TO ME. i could barely understand him and he was rude about it. And on top of it, i cant get my package until MONDAY and have to Drive 40mins to get it. DONT ORDER STUFF FROM COURTESYPARTS UPS WILL SCREW YOU OVER. Theyre getting $220 out of this and the parts cost me 600 usd. This should be illegal.

The irony of it is that against my instructions they still came and wasted gas. if theyd be smart about it and call me before they come they could save $$$$$ and time but noooooo. Lets burn down their buildings.

$560 for a set of weatherstripping. absolutely insane.

Now that you mentioned that you left a note on your door. Do you have any trust worthy neighbours in your area. Say the retiree that becomes the neighbourhood watch???? You should of had them deliver it to there house.

I remember when I got my rims and tires in, I wasn't home but they dropped it across to my neighbour, who is like the neighbour I said above.

It sucks that your gonna have to drive that distance now to get it.

Personally i would just take off (or tape off) your existing weatherstrips, put a little primer and then spray them black!

I also feel your pain.

I spent approx $678 with tax included for the four bottom window strips.

All Nissan has to do is seal the ends of them so moisture will not get under the ends. Jim

WoW-I realize this thread is a few months old but that is crazy. Had no idea you guys have to pay "brokerage fees" to have stuff delivered from the US.

Did you get a chance to install them and how do they look? I have one that is starting to bubble. Even with the "discounted" price, that is really expensive for what it is.

yeah im not so angry about it now since my bank account recouperated, but i still have never used UPS again. I even bought my new deck through a seller who does USPS, i almost got one from someone else but they refused anything but UPS so im like F*** u.

As for the weatherstripping, its a big difference i never looked back it looks great. The only complaint is that the older trim around it has a shinier appearance due to their age, but it looks much better than rusting/bubbling and isnt all warping and loose, it looks solid. I also siliconed the ends to prevent some moisture

So I have a question...

If you lived near the Canadian border (in the US) could you just purchase the item in the states and then drive it across the border? So if I lived near the border (on the US side) I could simply purchase the item in the states and then drive it across the border and ship it to it's final destination without paying any brokerage fee?

Question about window strips.

I don't have enough money to replace the strips this year so is there anything prevent rust of occurring. My strips are in pretty bad shape.Should i buy a small rust can and spray a bit underneath the strip?

brokerage isnt part of customs, brokerage is basically the fee UPS charges for having to go through customs. Ive heard if you use express UPS shipping you actually dont pay brokerage, and youd still pay less. Brokerage should be illegal IMO since none of that really goes to customs.

I used to live 20mins from detroit, across the border in Windsor. Everytime I went shopping id just hide my stuff and cross the border with a straight face, when they ask what you did and if you bought anything...went to see family, did not buy anything just went out for dinner...thats it. and id get through, sometimes theyd be a jerk and would pull you aside to search your car, I think once i got charged something like $25 on $200 worth of goods...still good deals.

Customs/border are good people and are pretty damn fair, its UPS that gives us the impression that their making a killiing off us when its UPS that is. they use customs as a way to point your blame but do your reasearch and its all UPS.

The reason why their trucks are brown were because other colours got dirty too quickly.....they were originally supposed to be yellow.

what can brown do for you?
