Hello all.

A few months ago, my wife's 14 Rogue started having a vibration at above 70 mpg, basically between 70 and 80. Sometimes it's very noticeable, other times it's very mild. They are newer tires, they've been balanced and rechecked on several occasions. Any ideas as to what could cause it? My tire shop is offering to replace the tires but there quite confident that it's not the issue.

Could it be bad tires and regardless how many times they're rebalanced that it won't help? Suspension issue? I've even seen things online that might lead it to a CVT transmission issue? It's a 14 Rogue with 71k. Really appreciate any input!

Dan

I'd have a road force test done first (if your tire shop doesn't have a Hunter road force machine, find a new shop).

Can't imagine it's the CVT. When you say vibration, is it in the steering wheel? Or is it throughout the chassis? Any sound associated with it?

No sound. It's through entire chassis. Steering wheel, shifter handle, all vibrate / shake kind of. Anything semi loose in the car also rattles. She has a vent mount cell phone holder and it rattles to death.

Ugh. That could be a lot of things.

Start with a road force test on all four tires. Ask them to look for a bent wheel as well.

Beyond that, I fear you may need a second opinion from a shop (could be a bad CV axle as well).

Will do, appreciate the response. I talked to the shop a few hours ago, headed there wednesday to get new tires replaced under warranty. If it persists, I have a good mechanic close to me that I'll take it to. If it's anything big, we do actually still have the factory nissan warranty for a other 4k miles. We bought an extended Nissan warranty when we bought it new.

Can you please mention the Brand & size tires that led to the vibes , and how soon after you bought them did this vibration start - like was it after a rotation , or 'routine' re-balance ( pre- vibe ? ). Occurred after how many months? Thanks

IMHO

After they been rebalanced so many times and still shake,

The tires are usually a bad batch.

Or

....that tires shaking during high speed highway driving with new set of wheels tightened lug centrically which is not the case here.

I concur it’s a bad batch.

Perhaps trying a different style or brand of tire may fix the problem. :woot:

Off top of my head, don't know exact size. My wife isn't home to look but they're factory 18" wheels so whatever that size is from the factory. They are firestone destination le2's, Got them in November of 18. Noticed vibration within a week. It's been back now 6 times for re-balancing. The vibration isn't always noticeable as well as this vehicle hardly ever sees highway speeds to notice an issue. This is why I partially don't think it's the tires but everyone I ask is saying otherwise.

So sorry, but many Firestone's = Junk , a High End mechanic ( Jag,Rolls,Mercedes, Ferarri,Lotus) once told me "don't buy ANY Firestone / Bridgestone" - If there ARE good Bridgestones ( they DO exist) Waaay too expensive for what they're worth.

Prior to this tip , I had only one set of Firestone (Indy ??) 500's on J30 around 2001 ?? They were pretty smooth 80 mph V-rated ride quiet , 2ply sidewall / 5or6 ply tread(tough enough) but the J loses it's AZZ and those 500's could'nt hold the back-end coming loose very well - few tires on a well tuned J30 can hold the back-end though. Gotta be super wide to do that .

Continental gotta have THE best in all facets ,after that = upper eschelon Ventus ,Michelin ( if ya can stand the price-still great tires) ,the better Goodyears, after those " never know what ya gonna get" performance wise :rotfl

My wife just picked it up with the new tires installed. She said so far it seems fine, back to normal. Shop advised me the right front tie rod is going bad. I called Nissan and it's warrantied under the factory nissan extended warranty we bought so it's going Friday morning for that.

I'll keep this thread updated as she drives it more on the highway. Hopefully this is kicked in the but. Thx for the input everyone, much appreciated! This rogue really has been a phenomenal vehicle to own, we love it. Only thing that needed fix since new (besides wearable items) is the blower motor replaced under warranty. That's pretty good for 71k miles.
