I've had my '14 Rogue for a little over 2 weeks and am curious as to whether or not I'm experiencing "normal" symptoms from it.

First, after driving it any distance it seems to idle rougher than my previous Rogue. The engine idle is audible (which it wasn't in the '13 model), and sometimes I hear a knocking noise that seems to come from the passenger side of the engine compartment. Both of these seem to be worse if it's been a longer and/or higher RPM trip (i.e. interstate versus highway).

Also, I believe I'm feeling a lot more vibration in the brake/gas pedals and steering wheel in this one as compared to the '13. Even if I'm resting my arm on the console I can feel it. I thought maybe I was just being picky/paranoid, but over the weekend my wife even noticed it from the passenger seat.

Has anyone else noticed these things? I'm going to make an appointment at a fairly local Nissan service department to let them check it...but I know that lots of times their MO is to says it's "normal"

Thanks!

When I first bought mine, people would comment on how quiet it was when it was running. When I had my oil changed at around 500 miles, they walked in and told me it was ready, so I walk out, and walk up to it, didn't hear anything, got in and tried to start it, and got the starter noise....it was already on, they left it running. Point being it was/is very quiet.

I'm at 7000 miles now and while it's still pretty quiet, I notice noise a little more than I did. Also I do notice vibration in the passenger seat when stopped at a light. I don't recall it doing that when I first had it.

I will be curious to see how it does in the next few months and if I notice anything else.

without audio/video - you describing noise is useless. i would simply head to the dealer.

Well, in fairness, I'm also describing sensations...and I thought there may be people on here that could validate my experience that the '14 model idles a bit rougher/louder than previous models. I'm heading to the dealer regardless, but hoped to have some corroboration for when I get the knee-jerk "that's normal" from them. Thanks!

A friend has a 2013, but not in it enough to know if it feels better or worse than mine, I think the 14 is quieter, but his also had stuff in the back making noise the last time I was in it.

The most I have noticed is the passemger seat vibrating, it was actually enough one time that a bag sitting in the seat was rusteling a little bit. However I didn't feel it vibrating, until I heard that and noticed the seat moving.

I have a 2013 Rogue FWD and I can definitely feel the passenger seat vibrating at stops. This is my first Nissan and I can say that main due to the cvt transmissions there is alot of vibration sometimes at city speeds and low rpms. I think it's just the nature of the beast. Nothing to be really concerned about. I would be more concerned if there was hesitation or rough idling causing the vibration issues.

Just wanted to update you, yesterday on the drive home at stop lights I would listen, and I heard a slight knocking sound like you are describing, if I had the radio on at all I couldn't hear it, it was very slight, and it sounded like it was coming from the passenger side of the engine. You might be able to pick it up on recording with special equipment from inside the car, but not with just any every day recorder most likely. Maybe from the outside you could.

Anyway, my guess it is normal. after having our 2013 Accord a few months we were waiting in a parking lot for some friends to show up, and I kept hearing this noise... at first I thought it was birds outside... finally realized it was the AC. You can always have the dealer look at it for peice of mind, and if you do find something is wrong let me know because I have it to. :wavey:

Hey JLD, I appreciate your feedback. I tested your theory and mine seemed to be worse with the AC on (it was a steamy 65-degrees here yesterday!), but didn't go away when I turned it off. When I'm able to get it to the dealer I'll give an update.

weaker engines produce more vibrations. some have slightly higher RPM idle speeds/ tuned better. some have better engine mounts. some dont have any of that. its the nature of a 4cyl. cycling A/C makes it worse. the alternator being loaded up with heated seats, fan, headlights, window defroster etc - makes it worse too.

this car was designed to use as little fuel as possible - that means keeping the RPM's very-very low (just above instability range) and to keep it there. so the ac turning on - sends it to the low 500rpm's where the car shakes.

Just got home from a 6 hour drive from So Cal. Heard the same knocking others have heard, but only once the door opened. Had no idea prior.

Once my car cools down a little I'll restart and see if it's still there.

Just got back in.

Back to its dead quiet self.

Weird.
