What was the problem with the sub?

I'm sure you know that not every single item that a company puts out can function perfectly its entire life, right!

They can test a driver at the facility 100% and it can still fail as soon as you put it in your car. Shipping could have jared something. It could have been a weak connection. You could have jarred it. Environment. Etc...

Have you ever had a car that didn't require maintenance? If you didn't fix the problems wouldn't they have failed eventually too?

Unfortunately no product can be guaranteed it's entire life, or even right out of the box. The only thing a company can do is back up its product with great customer service and a great warranty. Elemental Designs does both of those things.

So tell me, what was your problem?

Well, for the first set of subs, after breaking it in, they rubber fell off of the cone WITHIN 2 weeks after installing. Now, i dont think i was pushing it too hard, but still it should have lasted more than 2 weeks because i've had experience with other speakers, plus the gains were barely up.

After i sent it through to get maintenance done, i got one sub that was different ohm load. I would have sent it back for the correct one, but then i'd have to pay for shipping again, and i said forget that, its not worth it. I installed them, and i was getting a paper wrapping noise coming from one of them and the other ones cone rubber was again, coming off of it. Reliability with their subs, IMHO is garbage. They need someone different to build their stuff

My 1st elemental amp (nine.2x) had to be sent in to service along with the subs because the RCA inputs were installed crookedly and wouldnt work. So, i bought a 500/1 because i got the subs back before i got the amp back. I havent checked this amp yet, but i havent had time to check it for defects, i just want to sell it.

My overall experience with this company has been horrific. If I had known that their warranty would be done, AFTER i pay for shipping, i wouldnt have done it. I would have just gone to circuit city or best buy for the convenience of having the warranty taken care of, w/o the extra money coming out of my pocket to do so.

And my customer experience was good, until i had to get my warranty work done. It took them 5 months to get my subs back to me and another month(total 6 months) to get my amp back months BEFORE they were on back order. Now something tells me that

A. They were lazy and didnt give a d@mn about my warranty

or

B. They have alot of problems with their reliability/quality of their stuff being built that they just didnt have stock to accomodate everyones warranty work and fulfilled others before mine

What was the time frame of these failures? I mean, month and dates when they occured.

Elemental had known issues with their manufacturing facility for like 1~2 years, but the failure rate wasn't high enough initially to retool. But just for Customer Experience they redid their whole facilities.

Their quality has been greatly improved.

I equate it to the Toyota sludge prone engines. Toyota has been extremely reliable as a whole, but this engine design had huge problems. Toyota has since fixed the issue. Now they're reliable as ever.
