Anyone done the 125 amp Quest Alternator on a HB? I installed a little 400.1 Kicker amp pushing a L3 Bolo Baric. I noticed when Im bumpin hard with the AC blower on #3, the amp is shutting off due to low voltage. At night with my lights on and pushing 3/4 volume my headlights and dashlights are flickering to the beat. I can also feel slight hesitation under light throttle. LOL!! :ohno:

I found the write up on the 110 amp 97 Quest alty. I figure its a matter of time before 110 is not enough. I'm just wondering if the 125amp 2001 Quest alt would fit with little mods?? If anyone has done this mod, then please chime in.

BTW: I do have a Yellow Top Optima I'm running at the moment.

It seems like our alternators are only like 60 amp, but I cant remember where I read that. Have you considered adding a capacitor to your system? Even 400 watts is only about 30 amps. I would wager your alternator is might not be functioning properly/optimally.

I'm only pushing 350 watts myself, but have never had any issues, even with headlights, fogs and AC running.

The alt is an Auto Zone deal. Went out on me last winter and was stranded in a bad part of town. :tisk: AZ was the only place that had them in stock. You may be right. I'm gonna get out the multimeter today and do some tests. Thanks for the input. I will report back on what I find.

BTW: Now that I remember, when I did the upper rad hose, I got some coolant on the alternator. The batt light on the dash lit up for a moment or two, then went away. This was 2 months ago. So my alty may be on its last legs.

Im waiting for the YJ to open, then Im grabbing a 110 Quest alt for when my stocker gives up.

Thanks!!

UPDATE.... :tisk:

The L3 I had is no longer with us  It went with a courageous fight to Sub Woofer Heaven. Only lasted me 3 days before it blew. Anyway I'm gonna put the amp and deck in my Cadillac which has a 140 amp stock alt. Gonna have it built to 280amp, go with 0ga on the big three, and when funds permit go with an dual L7 15 setup. :naughty:

I appreciate the help guys. At least the truck itself is running good.. :lolling:
