Well i have a '92 300zx NA with 130k mi. It's past time for my recommended 120k mi timing belt change, so i've started to source timing belt kits. I'm planning a TT swap within the next 6 months or so and was wondering do i really need to change ALL the parts they recommend or could i just change the tensioner, water pump, and seals?
I've found a few OEM Nissan kits on eBay that include everything:

Code: Select all

What are just the ESSENTIAL timing belt parts i need to change until i get to my TT swap in the Spring? Don't want to be purchasing anything i don't really need right now.[/i]

If you are going to swap out the engine, I would at very least change the Belt. The tensioner, pulleys and pump you can move to the new engine, which you should do anyway for preventative maintenance. All the seals, I would just hold out until the new engine. Don't go cheap on the parts, if anything fails in this area can be catastrophic.

Here is what I would do, get the kit, the full kit and a second belt. Put one of the belts one the NA engine. When you get the engine for the swap, change everything in the 120k kit. New belts are like cheap insurance, you have no idea when the last time the belt was change on the engine you are going to swap. Unless you have documentation when it was done.

I'd do similar to what NF12 said, but I'd do the full 120K on the NA engine, then get new seals and a belt for the TT engine. Swap over all your hard parts (idlers, idler studs if you get the RameyZ studs, water pump etc) to the TT engine, use the new belt and seals and be done.

The one on the far right is what I would suggest as an ideal 120K kit
