I'm bringing in my Versa for it's 2nd oil change at 12000km, and the service guy recommended a brake inspection (+ $99). They recommend this every 12k. Does anyone have this done this regularly to their cars? I'm not heavy on the brakes when I drive so I don't expect to replace the pads for a while. And where we live, it's fairly flat so I'm not braking a lot down hills. Is this service valuable?

Wow... $99 for a brake inspection?

A lot of places will do cheap brake inspections. around here, and expensive one is $35.

You have 12000Km on your car.You DO NOT need new brakes or a ripoff brake inspection. Don't start looking at brake pad/shoe replacement until at least 30-40,000 miles at the earliestSave your money and never go back to that shop again

Around here most places will do a brake inspecton for free. And 40000 miles is about 65000 km.

Very quickly change to another service centre ... but tell them why you will not deal with them. A 99 dollar plus tax for something that is often free from brake and muffer outfits is surely a rip off unless of course you are having brake problems but then that is covered by the warranty unless it is for pads etc. You should be able to go 50,000 if you are light on the binders and don't live on top of a mountain. Good luck

It's West Coast Nissan. When I was negotiating, I got free oil changes for life so I'll continue to deal with them for that. Eventually I'd like to find a good mechanic for other general non-warranty stuff and for after the warranty expires. If anybody in the Tri-City area knows of a good local one, please e-mail me. Thanks in advance.
