12 V Power Outlet

Recently, when I plug my iPhone into the 12v outlet in the center console of my 2006 M35x, the LED on the plug lights up, but the phone does not charge. I have used the same power plug and cord in my wife's SUV and it charges the phone fine. It appears that the amount of "power" (for lack of a better term) produced by the outlet has dropped significantly. It seen strange to me because you would think that the outlet would either work or not work...not have less power. Any suggestions?
