Giant speaker means giant box, get over it. Big bass and trunk space don't mix.

good luck fitting an infinity sub in a coupe... youll need a custom box... and youll end up firing the sub up at the crap trunk lid, wasting bass. also youll need a good place to mount your amp, gl with that as well. coupes suck for systems... ill tell ya from experience, ive had a hatch and two coupes... all i have in my current coupe is a nice radio, nice speakers, and a nice 4channel amp for the speakers. no boom boom , just clean loud mids...

and please dont post 1230 watts or w/e... thats not the true power handling of the sub. just bugs me when people post that kinda stuff.

take your back seat out. convert it to an enclosure. its useless to have a backseat anyway...

it can be done but u HAVE to mount it in a nicely sized box in the trunk. personally, if i was to do it over again, i would use 2 10's in the rear seat area along the sides of the rear quarter panels behind all the plastic molding/armrest stuff. i also use one 12" and o yes does it hit hard but my trunk space is even more diminished. there's no way around this tho if u want to use a 12". good luck with ur setup.

I would consider a 10" sub instead check out the elemental designs SQ10 subwoofer its fairly powerful and only requires a 0.5 cu ft enclosure. Do you really need 1200+ watts in a coupe? Its going to sound like *** unless you spend the extra money to dynamat the crap out of the car.

No one here was hating saying it can't be done, the trunk is small enough personally I don't like a sub box taking up half my trunk and unless you go crazy with dynamat its going to rattle every body panel and sound horrible. Maybe I'm just an old fart I grew out of that phase years ago.

This is true it does rattle ALOT but i didnt want to add more weight to my car by dynamatting it. Also i say hateing because a 240sx should not have a system from what everyone keeps telling me if its not gutted for drifting its a wast LOL

That looks nice, man, but why wouldn't you go ahead and do Dynamat if you're not one of the 'drifters'?

Dynamat weighs only 1 lb per 2.5 square feet of coverage. That being said, you'd only be adding about 10-12 lbs of weight to your car if you dynamat the entire trunk. (Although just getting rid of the rattles and not worrying about SPL only requires a few 1 inch squares scattered throughout the rattling panels, and not the whole trunk. In that case you're talking about a half pound of material.) BTW, if you want big bass with a single sub, a bandpass box will hit a great deal harder than sealed enclosures.

boom boom VROOOOM!

if you dont want to take up space get a enclosed box insted of a vented but it wont sound better than a vented. and mount the amp on the back of the rear seat.

it's always bugs the **** out of me too, that sub would probably catch on fire if you sent it 1200 watts.

It depends on what type of sound he wants. a sealed enclosure can sound just as good as a vented.

Sealed enclosures require a great deal more power to hit hard. In this case, it might be good to go with sound-deadening the entire trunk, mounting the sub downward firing into a lower compartment created with a single MDF board in the trunk. In other words... use the TRUNK as the enclosure... saves weight and hits HARD. Have done that in several cars, including an Acura Legend and a Toyota Camry. Should work quite well in the a 240 Coupe

(BTW, you might consider ditching the spare. If you get a flat, you can use the money you've saved on gas to tote it around to pay a wrecker to change your tire or tow you. In many states, including TX -- this service is free of charge. Check the back of your driver's license for some really tiny telephone numbers.)

While solobarics don't do anything to cheat physics, they just design a sub to fit in a smaller box because of it's decreases Vas, which in return reduces it's efficiency and thus produces less bass. What they do is make up for it with a massive voice coil to handle more power which also introduces another nasty called power compression.

It's a good idea for some, but they still don't cheat physics.

Free air (infinite baffle) is likely the only way, and the people in the back seat will love the massage!

Here is an example of a sub in an s2000. You can only get an 8, or a low profile 10 to fit.

Here's a cooler install.
