Dynamat weighs only 1 lb per 2.5 square feet of coverage. That being said, you'd only be adding about 10-12 lbs of weight to your car if you dynamat the entire trunk. (Although just getting rid of the rattles and not worrying about SPL only requires a few 1 inch squares scattered throughout the rattling panels, and not the whole trunk. In that case you're talking about a half pound of material.) BTW, if you want big bass with a single sub, a bandpass box will hit a great deal harder than sealed enclosures.hotcakes0007 wrote:This is true it does rattle ALOT but i didnt want to add more weight to my car by dynamatting it. Also i say hateing because a 240sx should not have a system from what everyone keeps telling me if its not gutted for drifting its a wast LOL
it's always bugs the **** out of me too, that sub would probably catch on fire if you sent it 1200 watts.mrgreeneyes wrote:and please dont post 1230 watts or w/e... thats not the true power handling of the sub. just bugs me when people post that kinda stuff.
It depends on what type of sound he wants. a sealed enclosure can sound just as good as a vented.Mudvayne wrote:if you dont want to take up space get a enclosed box insted of a vented but it wont sound better than a vented. and mount the amp on the back of the rear seat.
Sealed enclosures require a great deal more power to hit hard. In this case, it might be good to go with sound-deadening the entire trunk, mounting the sub downward firing into a lower compartment created with a single MDF board in the trunk. In other words... use the TRUNK as the enclosure... saves weight and hits HARD. Have done that in several cars, including an Acura Legend and a Toyota Camry. Should work quite well in the a 240 Coupes14_240sx wrote:It depends on what type of sound he wants. a sealed enclosure can sound just as good as a vented.
*cough* *cough* SOLOBARIC SUBS... FREE-AIR SUBS.....sommmatt wrote:Giant speaker means giant box, get over it. Big bass and trunk space don't mix.
While solobarics don't do anything to cheat physics, they just design a sub to fit in a smaller box because of it's decreases Vas, which in return reduces it's efficiency and thus produces less bass. What they do is make up for it with a massive voice coil to handle more power which also introduces another nasty called power compression.chemao wrote:*cough* *cough* SOLOBARIC SUBS...
