So I'm debating on doing the 12 month service now or in the spring. It has been 12 months, but the G is going into hibernation next week until April. So naturally I have to get it ready for storage and one of my considerations is doing the service before hand, but I could do it in April and have fresh fluids right before summer. Just looking for some opinions. Thanks guys!

It would be better to have fresh fluids in the car over winter. Do the service now and put the car into hibernation as soon as you bring it home from the shop.

Yeah, that's what I was leaning towards. I think that's what I'll do. Thanks and happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Way off topic, but it came to mind with the icon...apparently last night (the night before Thanksgiving) is one of the biggest bar nights in the country? Who wants to get hungover (for those who are weak) before eating all that food? Any of you go out last night?

Yes I went out last night for the early bird special Meet anyone hot?

Ok so I'm an old farht thats been driving over 40 years. To get back to your original conundrum over whether to change fluids now here is my opinion and $.02.I'm not sure why you hibernate your vehicle? I don't believe that is healthy for the vehicle. If possible you should use it perhaps weekly or monthly rather then let it just sit. I'm looking at my 06 service and maintenance guide and for 12 months or 15k miles the premium maintenance service calls for an oil change & filter, lubricate locks, replace air filter & cabin filter, replace wiper blades, & a long list of things they inspect. When I inquired of the cost when I first purchased my G35 almost 2 years ago I was quoted $250. I'll estimate about $500 today out the door including tax. My wiper blades are almost 2 years old & are still fine. No need to change those till they start streaking. You can do much of what is required yourself. Unless you are due for an oil change now I would wait. Be sure to fill the fuel tank to avoid condensation in the fuel. You may also want to add a few extra lbs of air to your tires as the pressure drops as the temperature drops. Also keep in mind that there is a small draw on the battery which is another reason to get some use out of the vehicle during the winter.

Do you just hibernate with hot chicks from Univ of Michigan all winter?

I didn't go out...sadly, but I made up for it with the wine tonight. I do hibernate with hot chicks from U of M all winter, aka, my beautiful girlfriend from SoCal...she doesn't like to go out at least once a week like we do in spring/summer/fall when winter comes around because it's 'too cold'.

The reason the G hibernates is because:*I have free storage next to a Z*I can't take the G for when I go home because of the ~75" of snow that has fallen up to Christmas, particularly the annual going-home-for-Christmas-snow storm that I have to drive thru*Ann Arbor has no clue how to plow its roads and tend to leave the student ghettos and use this chemical instead of sand for ice*People in southeast Michigan have no freakin clue how to drive when they see snow, so I'm not going to risk it*My driving habits require 4X4, being from one of the snowiest parts in the country, I know how to and go balls to the wall even in the winter while driving...I have 2 blizzards under my belt...and I hate going slow.

In doing the 12 month service, I would just have the fluids done...I can do everything else myself.

The warranty is written so that you must have written proof of changing oil and filter every 180 days whether you drive a single mile or not in order to maintain engine coverage.

Well I guess that means I'm changing the oil again, which is probably a good thing anyway. Hey Q, you seem pretty knowledgeable about this stuff, you know if they can bring up previous work orders so that I have all my receipts? I can't find the first 2, albeit they were done at Nissan because Infiniti hadn't moved into town yet.

I was thinking. (I know I know my head hurts ) Anyway If you don't drive your car like some people do it -they live in colder climate- If you take it to the dealer before winter and you take it after winter with literally 0 mile put on it. Will they change the oil for you? It seems to be stupid but I don't know.

Q-TIP, yeah I am 59 and do have half gray hair.

Your warranty is with Nissan not a independent dealer who just has a contract for reimbursement of warranty expenses that Nissan approves.

To many don't fully understand the relationships between the two different companies.

The only way a dealership gets reimbursed for warranty charges is IF NISSAN approves them. Now the dealership KNOWS which ones Nissan will usually approve so they go ahead in advance.................but that doesn't mean they don't take some financial risk.

When they refuse to do warranty work it is because they KNOW Nissan won't approve the expense.

Warranty work is audited by Nissan and usually they backbill dealers a significant amount for doing unauthorized unneed work. That is how Service Managers get fired for being too generous to customers and too quick to OK warranty work. Warranty Pool amount is based on the number of new cars sold so large well established dealers have an advantage at least until midmonth when that pool of easy money is exhausted.

Then it is up to YOU to persuade Nissan employees to give the dealership the ok......that Nissan will pay.

Dealers have only 2 sources of funds YOU and Nissan. Nissan gets a discount based on annual volume [Nissan pays fewer hours] than are charged to customers for the same job. Afterall you may not pay thousands per year whereas Nissan is charged Millions.

When it comes down to denying coverage the only thing Nissan can look at is that written in your warranty contract and that is simple ---- Change the oil/filter every 180 days or 7,500 mile which ever occurs FIRST.

However watch out for other requirements WRITTEN in your contract like always maintaining liquids full.............running out of coolant, oil, or ATF voids your contract...............allowing an overheated vehicle to be driven to destruction is a common escape clause.

Changing the oil seems so simple to follow but you would be surprised how many cannot seem to follow this one simple item.
