1195 J30t Motor shutting down

Any help on this topic would be appreciated. She has 153K miles. Dash ABS light and battery light begin to illuminate. Radio begins to fade. Tach goes haywire, then power loss, finally motor shuts down. 3 hrs later (just a random time when trying to retrieve her), she starts again. driven about 2 miles and the dash lights mentioned begin to glow again. made it home and parked it in the drive.

Any thoughts on what's happening?

PS Perhaps unrelated but door lock actuator works but does not fully release the door lock and locks down automatically. door key in tumbler does not open from the outside, lock mechanism from inside must be manually held while openning door.

i would have to agree about the alternator, and also have it and your battery checked at AutoZone. Get those checked first and move from there.

I would just about bet my J that it's your alternator. My car was doing the same thing after my engine was put in. Luckily I had another OEM one around. I've heard that anything other than OEM can be finicky, so check with some dude on this forum for a low priced OEM one. I forgot his name, but he knows who he is.

Failing Alternator will make anything electronic go wacky.Did the door locks do this before the other symptom started ?

started to fail just prior to the dash issues. perhaps the alt was on its way out and the lock mechanism started to puke first?
