I live in Cali and am left with no other options but to add wiseco forged internals with a bumped CR of 11.1:1...... Looking for a streetable KA, no turbo charging, turboing KA in Cali is illegal for street use.My question is will this pass the inevetable Cali Dyno Smog Check. It will pass your basic idle smog check. Do to the dyno smog it will pick up the hydro carbons, and NOX levels. With the standard smog equipment could it pass.I've delt with two other mechanics on this project that are sceptical of it passing the dyno smog. There not certified smog mechanics just A.S.E certified tuners. There not really performance builders as I am so I tell them BAH HUMBUG.........Now my delima is if I can't get it to the recomended 11:1, what do you guys on the boards suggest. What will pass, if not 11:1 and has any one else done this in cali and put it through the proper smog testing. If not I can always register my car at my relatives house further up north where only the idle smog check is used.....

Ding Ding Ding.

That's how I have both of my cars registered. On a side note, make sure it's a county on the coast, or they will still have dyno smog. 2 speed idle is for coastal areas. Just check and make sure before you do it.

Doesn't have to be coastal "EXACTLY", Chico, Paradise, Orland and Redding do idle smog also. Basically the white trash towns of the North are still sooo broke they don't do the dyno smog.

Hey Panda S14 on another topic those ITB's off of the Suzuki are pretty sweet!!!!! Mad props!!!!!!!!! How strong is the vacuum to the intake side to prevent scavaging.......Also what CR are you runnin on your KA, and could you feel a difference?Does it also run well on Cali 91octane????

an 11:1 CR will actually help your emissions, except that your NOx will go up, but your EGR system should be able to take care of the extra if it's in good working order.

So if I use the the stock OEM CAT would that help the EGR system pump the exhaust gases back through the intake manifold? If this is the plan of action then I would just switch back to my hi Flow CAT after smog check....Can't I also reduce the amount of NOX by using synthetic OIL instead of petro based oil?My understanding is that synthetic oil doesn't burn like petro based oils.......I also have a plan on having e85 fuel shipped to me from Minnesotta, just for the smog check, does it seem like a good idea??? Especially if I decide to register the car where I live.E85= 85% ethanol, 15% petro fuel........Thanks for the help fellas, much appreciated...

I have no idea how ethanol combusts, so I don't know what that'd do for your emissions, but synthetic compared to standard won't have much effect on your HC, and won't have any measurable effect on NOx, as NOx is created simply by reacting the Nitrogen and Oxygen inherent in the atmosphere, it's just that the required activation energy for the formation of oxides of nitrogen is very high. I don't think it should make you fail emissions, and even if it does they'll have no way of coming down on you for it, since it'll just look like there's something wrong with your EGR system.

If you work with the right smog tech, he'll mix in some methanol, tune the injection, timing and ignition via OBD and you should be okay.
