Who here is running 10mm spacers on stock studs? :gotme

I know 5 or 8mm isn't a problem. 2mm extra is not much at all

10mm spacer with studs built-in are hard to find and those that do have them want big bucks.

10mm is fine, some people even run 15 without extra studs. Are you trying to make the frons more aggressive?

Thanks Mex

I like the tuck look and at the same time be safe. I got the front wheels milled just to make sure I don't damage my fender vents. That 275/30 is big even more so when you turn.

I now have 20x10.5 (285/30) and the rear was made so a 20x11 wheel would fit. I got the car aligned and gave the rear some camber just for looks. Now I have more room and would like to use a 10mm spacer but not willing to pay over $100 for built-in studs when a 15 or 20mm with built-in studs go for around $75.

Just wanted to ask that a 10mm spacer was safe to use on stock studs on our M's.

WARNING: Don't come to my area with 20x10 with 225/35 and your wheels are poking, your not going to be happy. :nono:

Yikes 10mm for me would not work. You need to have the bolt at least to the end of its threads for safety. Unless you have freakishly long studs don't do 10mm spacer.

I guess the rim would play a role too, depending on how fat the wheel is to the hub it could work or might not.

I personally wouldn't go above an 8mm without studs

I just tried a 5mm spacer & I have 9.5 turn on the lug nut.

Most are saying you need a min. of at least 6 turns, anything less would be dangerous.

How many turns does a 5mm take away?

I don't know offhand. If you have access to another 5mm add it then recount how many turns you get from it.

Or

Count how many turns you have when you take the spacer off...the difference would tell you many turns you lost.

I just found out that the diff from 8mm to 10mm is only 1/16"

Some weekend reading material on wheel separation.

http://www.meaforensic.com/wheel-separa ... -forensic/

"Ideally, you want the same engagement onto the thread as the diameter of the stud.
IE. M12 stud - you want about 12mm of engagement.
M12 x 1.5 pitch stud (typical for Toyota) equals 8 turns of the nut (12/1.5 =8).
5.5 turns of the nut times 1.5mm pitch = 8.25mm of engagement which is not ideal."

I think this anonymous quote makes sense to me for safety reasons. Many others are saying various other amounts but at the end of the day it's torque that holds the nut onto the stud. If you can apply the min necessary torque after the spacer without stripping the stud or nuts threads in the process it might be sufficient but I would still stick on the side of caution and look for full engagement.

I don't want to see any M's in the ditch or anyone here getting hurt.

I haven't had to much time to search for a 10mm hub-centric spacer that comes with the longer studs.

The little I did I already know to stay away from the ones on ebay selling for $66-$67, the spacer isn't 1pcs with the hub-centric part (it's 2 parts) and the studs are cheap. It looks nothing like the pic used on ebay.

The only one I saw was the one made by Eibach but the price is over $100 for just 10mm :frown:

I'll have to do a better search as soon as I get a chance.
