I'm selling my m3 to buy a house. However I'm going to need another car for daily transportation. I'm planning on having about 10k total for the car, tires, mods, etc. I am looking for a sporty, reliable, daily transportation. The cost would need to include all labor costs for engine swaps, or rebuilds. Which vehicle would you guys recommend and which mods? I'm thinking either a rx-7 or a 240sx with a turbo engine. What do you think? Thanks.

get a s14 and do an sr swap...find one with high miles since yur gonna switch the engine anyways, im sure you can find a nice s14 for around 6 g's that ll leave you with alot of extra money to do work to the body(not that u would really need to b/c the s14 already looks good), or rims or other engine upgrades..thats what i would do if i had 10 000 dolas right about now...

Obviously a 240. If you were gonna get an RX-7 with that kinda money then you'd have to get an FC, and it would be really old. A rotary might be pretty expensive to maintain as well. Buy a body of a 240(s13), then swap in an s14 SR20DET. Do the usual fuel upgrades and such, whiteline bushings all around, and Tein HAs. Just my opinion.

Easy there killer. He's just looking for opinions, that's what is going on. I don't think you have helped him any.

joesmith, welcome to NICO! Go over to the Buy/Sell/Trade section and check out the posts that have been stickied. Former_S14_240 has a '96 for sale that is incredibly clean. He is trying to sell it to get an M3. Take a look at it. I would buy it.

Hey Joe, welcome to NICO, and I am maybe intrested in buying an M3, depends on year and stuff. I just sent you an email.

I would rather have a 240sx with a sr or ka-t before I would get an rx7 due to the reliability factors, don't get me wrong, the rx7s are awsome, but they are not known for reliabilty

No, if you're going to swap anyways, just get a body for like 200 bucks at a salvage yard. Like I said in my previous post.

Thanks for the replies. And thanks for the defense repo man. I'm not looking for what I CAN do because that is a wide open question, I'm looking for what I SHOULD do. For example I know I want a turbo engine and will need bigger brakes but do I need to replace all four brakes or just the front with 300z brakes. Would this be okay untill about 300hp? This is the sort of advice and opinions I was looking for.

I emailed Former_S14_240 and we will see what happens.

oH and why go Sr20?

If I had that dough, just get an S14, and put a RB25. Great power, great reliability, and not that mush more in price. There is a thread going on about this right now.

well if you want a 98 +, you might as well try to find a 96 + because the 96-99 was the exact same car, the 95 was a diff. one because it as .2 liters smaller "3.0vs3.2" and had the easier emisions

The M3 is an incredible car. BMW's are an excellent marque. I remember when I was in Europe that the fastest damn cars on the autobahn were BMW's. My wife's best friend's dad (follow that?) has an '83 635CSi with a manual transmission that is in pristine condition and he is selling it. I want to buy it, but must resist that temptation. Shouldn't be too difficult with my bank account and mutual funds in their current, sorry-*** condition. :-)

joesmith- no prob. I hope you find our site to be informative as well as entertaining. There is a wealth of knowledge here. There are just some people still under the negative influence of...well, never mind.

As far as a brake upgrade w/300hp, on my car (s13) I would likely go with the PDM Racing (http://www.pdmracing.com) 300ZX front brake conversion with a 1 1/16th master cylinder. Stainless lines all the way around and matching cross-drilled and vented rear rotors with matching pads. That should give you all the stopping power you would need for a street application with 300hp. In my humble opinion of course! :-)

if its a brand new m3... screw the house ;)or you could trade in the m3 and get an m5 :O

an sr powered 240 for a daily driver...hmm how you plan on passing emisions?

but ya.. For 10gs.. you could have a really bad *** 240 (s15 conversion + sr20det = drool)

Its a 95 m3 but it has a fully built engine. I would love an m5 but can't afford it right now. Let me tell you it pains me more than you know to sell it. It is an absolute dream to drive.

As for emmisions I am in oregon so I don't have to pass smog. It would just be a tailpipe sniffer test and I've been told that with a cat then an sr should pass fine. Is this correct?

rx7club.com Get there opinion on this. We are some what partial.

There is nothing wrong with a good Turbo II, RX7. They handle good and have good power. You can find one reasonable and get some suspension and rims. Get a boost controler and turbo timer.

OR

Find an S13 with a good body for cheap and get an SR. I personally would find one with a good motor and low miles and turbo it with a home made kit (junk yard parts).

Either way you go, these car handle excelent. And are great platforms for upgrades.

P.S. Welcome aboard.
