i'm planning on getting some 100/90 wattage light bulbs for my 1989 240sx and was wondering if the stock wiring harness for the headlights can handle that much power? or will it burn my wires down? thanks.

100 watts shouldn't be a problem, its amperage that will really kill wires. By the way, those are gonna be crazy bright, isn't stock 55/45?

watts=volts x amps

Therefore, the idea that watts won't burn wires is moot. I had a 2002 Dodge Ram, with much better wiring than an 89 Nissan. 100/80 APC burned my harness and my plug in 2 weeks, with lights run only on dim. On bright, you could smell the wires heating up and see the smoke if you opened the hood. If you already have lights that accept the 100/80, why not go HID? They consume much less power and are very bright. You can go with Matrix show bulbs, if you are on a budget. Their 65/55 off road bulbs come in any color from white to green, including HID blue. These lights were as bright as beforementioned APC, and drew much less current. I ordered mine from O'rielly's for 18.99 w/ free shipping.

the bulbs i want to run are MTEC 100/90 watt Super White 4X bulbs, guess i should have mentioned that earlier. Is anyone else running these on your s13 without any modifications to the stock wires? also the reason i'm not going with HID's is because i dont have 1000 dollars to spend on lighting. Because that's about the average cost for a true HID system. the cheap HID kits aren't nearly as bright and they scatter the light everywhere, so you waste a lot of light since you're using your own housings.

That's incorrect; my HID at 8000K are much brighter then the stock 5000K, why? Because they use a very small reflective housing, have a metal restrictor between the bulb and the projector and the projectors is polarized horizontally. So having my housing scatter light everywhere actually makes visibility 5X better then the stock HID's on my Audi

And I got mine for 375 shipped of eBay.

HID kits for my car don't come with projectors, the projectors make a huge difference. the kits are pretty much so you can use HID bulbs with yourhealights. well i don't really want to go into discussion about HID's, i just want my original question answered about the MTEC 100 watt bulbs. thanks

on the same housing, same ballast and brand of bulb, the 5000k will be far brighter to 8000k

As I mentioned before, 100 watt bulbs will melt your harness and plug. I suggest going no higher than 65 watts, but the choice is up to you. All day long, I install bright bulbs for stupid kids; and I also get the opportunity to repair burnt harnesses and put on new plugs. If you live close to TN, please put on the 100 watt bulbs so I will have some work. Matrix offers a 65/55 that is as bright as a standard 100 watt. Try this for only 18.99.
