Is there a catch to this nicely affordable $1000 chain guide job at T3? Am I going to have to pay more money for other parts and services if something should go wrong in the process? I assume of course that $1000 doesnt include sales tax.

I'm at a point where I'm either going to sell my Q and buy a lower-mileage vehicle (50-100k) just to get to work and school (pondering a Chrysler Sebring JXi or Mazda Miata for those gorgeous spring/fall months), or keep it and get the important things done this summer.

Its not the money, as much as it is the time. When I was unemployed I had all the time in the world. And now I have an MBA around the corner to work on. I've put only 900 miles on the car since November 03.

I expect to put 30,000-40,000 miles on the car in the next four years. Im at 184k now.

Which will only need to be done if there are guide peices that need to be fished out. I think the $1000 is for real, but once you get to T3 and see the kind of work they do, you're going to want them to do other things too - at least that's how I am. I'm not an impulse shopper on most things, but put me near Dennis and a Consult and Byron and my AMEX card gets really nervous :D

The lowest out of towner bill was around $1300 [yesterday] guides and a transmission flush, the highest around $10,000-----engine and transmission swap plus some AC rehab.

WE HAVE PEOPLE DOING WHAT THEY CAN AFFORD.We have had people return home with blown shocks, tension rods, upper links, rack bushings, engine and transmission mounts leaking plenums, bad knock sensors, and leaking valve covers, bad O2, bad drive shafts..............spent $2k and learned they need to spend another $5,600.

Guess the average is around $2500.

I dropped close to $3K and was happy to do it! I'd make the trip again (about 10 hours towing the Q with a Tahoe at 50 MPH) if my Q fell ill. Its done right the first time!

Well, looks like I'm off to T3 this summer. I got excellent prices quoted over the phone on chain guides (saved 45%), AC compressor belt and idler (saved 55%), and rack bushings (saved 65%). I love my dealer but I easily save more than the cost of fuel to drive to T3.
