I've been told that 100% synthetic oil is not good for older gearboxes and rear ends....

what about 100% synthetic for engine oil????

i have a 1995 240sx with 150Kms...

I have also heard that engine's that did not start with synthetic oil should not be switched to synthetic from my Nissan mechanic.

Where there's also the saying that cars should be broken in before the switch to Synthetic. My opinion... The sooner you switch the better! Don't go cheapo synthetic... go Mobil One SuperSyn or Amsoil Series 2000 and get a good filter! For gearbox's synthetic will probably extend what life it has left in rear ends and transmission's. Good luck!

Over time I've learned one thing about techs and mechanics, don't believe them. (keep in mind i'm talking about most not all) Most engines don't start with synthetic because it cost more.

Nice catch hehe, there are only two I know of personally I believe... I also have read a few times in the past that alot of cars that rec synthetic dont start with synthetic because of the lower friction thus taking them longer to seat properly. Thats what my friend (tech) does on a fresh personal engine, he uses a cheaper dino oil for the first 500, then drains out the assembly lube / metal / whatever out of it and puts in the good stuff.

Ill do the same on my rebuild as well.
