I've been told that 100% synthetic oil is not good for older gearboxes and rear ends....

what about 100% synthetic for engine oil????

i have a 1995 240sx with 150Kms...

Synthetics make things last longer.

1 thing you need to look out for.A friend of mine washed all the bearings out of an engine by switching to synthetic oil. What happened was the engine had a parrafin build up inside which of course was full of carbon and other debris. This happens when running some conventional oils especially cheap no name brands. So after doing some valve work and seeing all the parrafin build up he switched to a synthetic oil thinking it would slowly dissolve and clean the parrafin out. lol

It cleaned it out alright in about two months we were pulling the engine because it was wore out mains, rod, and cam bearings were shot but the engine had almost no parrafin build up left in it.

Machine shop doing motor work said that happens with older engines that are real dirty inside all the build up of gunk on the inside of the engine breaks lose and then starts pumping through all your bearings.

Personally i use Mobil1 in all my vehicles even lawn mowers from when they are brand new and if i buy an older used vehicle it will be changed to Mobil1. MO
